June was the best reading month for me so far this year as I managed to read six books. I know that probably doesn’t seem like a lot to some people, but I’m pretty happy with that number. I’ve actually got so many unread books on my shelves that I’m finding it hard to choose what to read next. To help with that matter I’ve started using an app that chooses for me. From this, I have created a list for my July to be read which can be found here.

So without further ado here is my June 2020 wrap-up:

Chain of Gold (The Last Hours #1) by Cassandra Clare

Read: 24/05/20 – 12/06/20          Rating: 4.5/5

Chain of Gold was definitely the best read of the month for me. After waiting almost two years for a new Cassandra Clare book, I was more than excited for this to be released. There was always the fear in the back of my mind that Chain of Gold would not live up to my expectations, especially as The Dark Artifices is my favourite series, however, I did not need to worry at all. I loved Chain of Gold and am now anticipating the release of Chain of Iron.

Grey Magic and Binding Deceptions (Grey Witch #3) by Cece Rose

Read: 09/06/20 – 15/06/20          Rating: 3/5

After finally getting kindle unlimited again, I was able to continue with some of its available series that I had previously started. One of which is the Grey Witch series. This was actually suggested to me by someone in a book group and honestly, I don’t think it lives up to the hype they were giving it.

I only read this book a few weeks ago and honestly, I can’t really remember what happened in it. It’s not entirely bad but it feels like the story is only just progressing and I’m now three books in. The first book was probably the most interesting as Kayla, the main character, was being blamed for a murder she did not commit.

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1) by Sarah J. Maas

Read: 13/06/20 – 22/06/20          Rating: 4/5

Throne of Glass was a long-awaited read for me. I have known about the series for years and years, however, I never thought to pick it up. Finally, I have read the first book and would say that it was pretty good. I know a lot of people do not like Celaena because of how arrogant she is, but that was actually something I loved about her. I was glad to for once be reading a fantasy book where the main female character is strong and not constantly having to rely on those around her for help.

I actually enjoyed the book so much that I instantly picked up the second straight after finishing it.

Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2) by Sarah J. Maas

Read: 22/06/20 – 26/06/20          Rating: 4/5

Crown of Midnight was a great carry on from Throne of Glass. I enjoyed getting to see more of Celaena’s assassin side and found some of the twists really exciting and interesting. Although I will say that the biggest twist of all was easily guessable and I figured it out from the first book, I honestly had no idea about it as I always scroll straight past any posts to do with this series as I didn’t want any spoilers.

I’m planning to read Heir of Fire at some point this month and will probably start another series in between as I’m not always a huge fan of reading them back to back. I will most likely write a review for Heir of Fire as I am planning to do so with a select number of my July reads, so keep your eye out for any new book posts!

Amuletto Kiss (The Magic & Mixology Mystery #5) by Gina LaManna

Read: 15/06/20 – 24/06/20          Rating: 3.5/5

I have been really enjoying The Magic & Mixology Mystery series which probably makes you wonder why I have only given this book a 3.5/5. However, not a lot seems to really happen in each book and if anything exciting does happen it seems to only be near the end and will only last for a chapter or two. I’d rather have them condensed down into a trilogy. I am yet to read the last book however I’m not too sure where the story will be going or even how it will come to a resolution.

A Cursed Reign (Whims of Fae #5) by Nissa Leder

Read: 22/06/20 – 30/06/20          Rating: 3/5

A Cursed Reign was probably on par with Grey Magic and Binding Deceptions as my least favourite reads of the month. The biggest issue for me with this book is that it lacked in-depth and felt like filler before the last book.
