Who is Lucy Feliz?

Currently based in Brighton, Lucy Feliz released her debut album Ancestry in 2017. After signing with Ok Pal Records earlier this year she recorded her second album Last of The Sun in New Zealand’s Sitting Room. The anticipated second album is set to be released on the 28th August 2020 following the success of the lead single Magic Hour. With press coverage from The Line of Best Fit, BBC Radio and opening for Tiny Ruins and Laura Veirs on their UK tours, Lucy is definitely one to watch in the alt-folk scene.

Last Laugh is an ode to childhood nostalgia. Brimming with bright guitars and a lulling melody this is for sure a track you do not want to miss. The song has an air of serenity to it that makes Last Laugh an extremely easy listen.

When the vocals kick in they are beautifully transcendent. Your mind is instantly taken to a happy place, for example, a sandy white beach where the waves are lapping at your feet. This feeling carries throughout the entire song and leaves you with a sense of tranquillity.

Lucy’s vocals are the standout part of this track for me. She has what I can only describe as a mystical tone that is simply stunning. This paired with the soothing melody creates a sound that is ethereal in nature and atmospheric in feeling. However do not let that statement fool you, there is a strength behind the lightness which comes together to create a vocal tone which is really quite pleasing to listen to.

There is something about this track that feels very open and intimate. Although it does not force you to feel either happy or sad Last Laugh invites you to bask in the nostalgia of childhood and reminisce on times passed.

Although seemingly downbeat Last Laugh is a very vibrant track. Lucy does an amazing job of creating vivid imagery and manages to create a new world in itself with this track, something of which I am aware she was working towards with her upcoming second album Last of The Sun.
