The Best Of: Beautiful Book Covers #2

It has always been said that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but let’s be honest we all do it. I am a sucker for a beautiful cover and that’s the reason why I brought the majority of the books I own.

With that being said, I am again talking about some of my favourite young adult book covers. Let me know if you agree with the books listed below and any you would want to add.

*I will be including the Goodreads synopsis of all the books for those whose interests are piqued by the covers*

When We Collided by Emery Lord

P9360396

Although very simple in nature the cover for When We Collided is one that often comes to mind when thinking about some of my favourite covers. The paint splatters perfectly express the relationships in this book and I think it is done beautifully. Especially because of the fact that they are bright happy colours.

Goodreads synopsis: “We are seventeen and shattered and still dancing. We have messy, throbbing hearts, and we are stronger than anyone could ever know…

Jonah never thought a girl like Vivi would come along.

Vivi didn’t know Jonah would light up her world.

Neither of them expected a summer like this…a summer that would rewrite their futures.

In an unflinching story about new love, old wounds, and forces beyond our control, two teens find that when you collide with the right person at just the right time, it will change you forever.”

With The Fire On High by Elizabeth Acevedo

I think we can all agree that there is something special about this cover. I don’t quite know how to put it into words. This is definitely one of my favourite covers of 2019, even if I am yet to read it.

I am really loving the shift that YA covers took last year, they are definitely more sophisticated and are starting to look like books that any age can enjoy. Which makes me happy because I’m probably starting to get too old to be reading YA, which I don’t really care about, but its nice to see covers that are catering to an older audience.

Goodreads synopsis: “With her daughter to care for and her Abuela to help support, high school senior Emoni Santiago has to make the tough decisions, and do what must be done. The one place she can let her responsibilities go is in the kitchen, where she adds a little something magical to everything she cooks, turning her food into straight-up goodness. Still, she knows she doesn’t have enough time for her school’s new culinary arts class, doesn’t have the money for the class’s trip to Spain — and shouldn’t still be dreaming of someday working in a real kitchen. But even with all the rules she has for her life — and all the rules everyone expects her to play by — once Emoni starts cooking, her only real choice is to let her talent break free.”

Legendary (Caraval #2) by Stephanie Garber

P9360410

I can’t really speak for the original covers of this series, however, the Waterstones editions are stunning. With sprayed edges and gold foiling, this cover was always going to be a winner for me. I really am a sucker for sprayed edges and foiling.

Again this is a very simplistic design, but it has been executed very well. I loved that they have paired dark blue with orange, not a combination I would have created, but one that I am a fan of.

Goodreads synopsis: “A heart to protect. A debt to repay. A game to win.

After being swept up in the magical world of Caraval, Donatella Dragna has finally escaped her father and saved her sister Scarlett from a disastrous arranged marriage. The girls should be celebrating, but Tella isn’t yet free. She made a desperate bargain with a mysterious criminal, and what Tella owes him no one has ever been able to deliver: Caraval Master Legend’s true name.

The only chance of uncovering Legend’s identity is to win Caraval, so Tella throws herself into the legendary competition once more—and into the path of the murderous heir to the throne, a doomed love story, and a web of secrets…including her sister’s. Caraval has always demanded bravery, cunning, and sacrifice. But now the game is asking for more. If Tella can’t fulfill her bargain and deliver Legend’s name, she’ll lose everything she cares about—maybe even her life. But if she wins, Legend and Caraval will be destroyed forever.

Welcome, welcome to Caraval…the games have only just begun.”

  1. You are right in saying we mustn’t judge a book by it’s cover and yet, when browsing book shelves, it is really the cover that will catch your eye and draw your attention. Many a time have I been deceived by an attractive cover whose contents failed to hold my attention. And still we fall into that trap again and again.
Anyway, here’s to cover aesthetics 😀😀😀

  2. Loved all your choices, and your pictures are gorgeous! Charlie Bowater covers are some of the best cover arts I’ve seen. (I might be guilty of buying a book without knowing what it’s about solely because her art was on the cover… whoops 😅)
