The Best Of: Beautiful Book Covers #3

Already I have shared eight of my favourite covers, with this post bringing us to twelve. I honestly have no idea how many more of these I will make as I seriously love a lot of covers, so please let me know in the comments if you would be interested in seeing more of these posts in the future.

THE DEATHLESS GIRLS BY KIRAN MILLWOOD HARGRAVE

* for some reason wordpress is killing the quality of this photo sorry*

I brought The Deathless Girls purely because of its cover. There was something about it that drew me in and I couldn’t deny buying it. Also lets be honest the title sounds pretty cool too.

It is definitely the animals that drew me into this cover. Although it is obviously a static image it seems to hold a lot of character and you can almost see movement in the animals. Well atleast that what it looks like to me.

The colours are also another big part as to why I love this cover. The muted autumnal colours really suite my taste and I love all of the smaller details which are not necessarily; noticeable at first glance.

Goodreads synopsis: “They say the thirst of blood is like a madness – they must sate it. Even with their own kin.

On the eve of her divining, the day she’ll discover her fate, seventeen-year-old Lil and her twin sister Kizzy are captured and enslaved by the cruel Boyar Valcar, taken far away from their beloved traveller community.

Forced to work in the harsh and unwelcoming castle kitchens, Lil is comforted when she meets Mira, a fellow slave who she feels drawn to in a way she doesn’t understand. But she also learns about the Dragon, a mysterious and terrifying figure of myth and legend who takes girls as gifts.

They may not have had their divining day, but the girls will still discover their fate…”

SERPENT & DOVE (SERPENT & DOVE #1) BY SHELBY MAHURIN

This has been on my to be read for quite sometime and again I am not ashamed to admit that the cover is one of the reasons why.

Colour wise this cover is very simple, however in this case it is a good thing. There is so much going on behind the title that this design just would not work with too many colours.

The snake, which if you continue reading this post seems to be a running theme, is the perfect compliment to the background as whilst still being eyecatching, does not take away from the overall beauty.

Goodreads synopsis: “Bound as one to love, honour, or burn.

Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like Lou are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned.

Sworn to the Church as a Chasseur, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. His path was never meant to cross with Lou’s, but a wicked stunt forces them into an impossible union—holy matrimony.

The war between witches and Church is an ancient one, and Lou’s most dangerous enemies bring a fate worse than fire. Unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, a choice must be made.

And love makes fools of us all.”

THE QUEEN OF NOTHING (THE FOLK OF THE AIR #3) BY HOLLY BLACK

This is yet another book on this list that I have not read yet, but seriously just look at that cover how could I not include it.

It seems that snakes are a current trend in the world of YA covers and honestly I’m loving it. In this instance, the iridescent scales add a pop of colour to what could have been an average cover. This paired with the redness of the berries makes this cover a stand out for me.

This is probably one of my favourite covers to have been released so far this year and I am more than excited to continue reading this series.

Goodreads synopsis: “He will be destruction of the crown and the ruination of the throne.

Power is much easier to acquire than it is to hold onto. Jude learned this lesson when she released her control over the wicked king, Cardan, in exchange for immeasurable power.

Now as the exiled mortal Queen of Faerie, Jude is powerless and left reeling from Cardan’s betrayal. She bides her time determined to reclaim everything he took from her. Opportunity arrives in the form of her deceptive twin sister, Taryn, whose mortal life is in peril.

Jude must risk venturing back into the treacherous Faerie Court, and confront her lingering feelings for Cardan, if she wishes to save her sister. But Elfhame is not as she left it. War is brewing. As Jude slips deep within enemy lines she becomes ensnared in the conflict’s bloody politics.

And, when a dormant yet powerful curse is unleashed, panic spreads throughout the land, forcing her to choose between her ambition and her humanity…”
