*I was given an ARC of Influence in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Little, Brown Book Group UK, Atom, Sara Shepard and Lilia Buckingham.*
Influence is the latest novel from Sara Shepard, bestselling author of Pretty Little Liars. Focussed on the LA influencer world, the thriller shows what life is like behind the scenes of influencers. Lilia Buckingham was a great contributor and offered wonderful insight into the world of influencers.
Synopsis:
Delilah Rollins is fairly new to the influencer world and has just moved to LA with her family. We first meet her when she is on her way to an event. At this event, she meets Jasmine and Fiona, two big names in the influencer world. She also meets ‘it girl’ Scarlet.
The story is told from the four-girls perspectives and is packed full of mystery, drama and interesting insights on the influencer world.
Review:
Influence definitely took a little while to get going. However, it was essential to know the background of each character and how they got where they are today. This does not mean that it was a slow or boring read. Honestly, I was hooked from the get-go.
I actually really enjoyed the writing style, which is quite unusual for me as I’m not a huge fan of multiple perspectives. However, here it worked really well. Especially with all of the secrets that everyone was trying to keep.
This brings me to our four main girls. They were all intriguing characters and getting to experience four different types of influencers was a really great aspect. Each girl had their own secrets they were trying to hide and they all had unique personalities which really fed into the mystery.
Gaining insight into the life of influencers was really interesting. I’m so glad Sara decided to include more of the gritty side of it, instead of just showing people all of the amazing events and opportunities influencers get.
The plot twist is definitely an interesting one. I would never have guessed it. Although I will say there is a second plot twist, which is actually the answer to the main mystery. This was the only bad point of the book for me. Not because you are tricked into thinking you know the answer, but because it was so rushed and no one really reacted to it. Which trust me they should have. It was wild.
Final Thoughts:
I would more than recommend Influence to anyone who was a fan of the Pretty Little Liars series or anyone who is looking for a contemporary thriller. I feel like by the end of the book I was so invested in the characters lives that I am now craving a sequel.
Influence is available to buy from January 5th 2021
