The day has finally come that I have read The Dream Thieves. This has been a long time coming and oh how annoyed I am at myself for not reading this sooner. 

Synopsis:

As I know a lot of people have read this series by now I am going to keep this part and the entire review short. The book follows Blue Sargent, daughter of a psychic who is not one herself. She and her ‘Raven Boys’; Gansey, Adam, Ronan and Noah are searching for the long-dead Welsh king Glendower. I’m not going to really talk about it more than that because firstly this is the second book and I don’t want to spoil for those who haven’t read it yet. Secondly, pretty much everyone and their dog have read this by now. 

Review:

Similar to The Raven Boys I found it took a while for me to get into the story, but when I did it was amazing. There’s something about Maggie’s writing that seems a little disjointed to me, but it does work for this series. I’m not saying I don’t like her writing style, I actually really do. However, it does take me a while to get really immersed. These books, for me, are the types that I need to make sure I have a good few hours to sit and read. 

I’m still not sure whether I preferred The Dream Thieves to The Raven Boys as it has been pretty much an entire year between books. I enjoyed the heavier focus on Ronan and his strange dream ability and I liked the insight into what his life was like before his dad was murdered. 

In the next book, I am hoping for a lot more Gansey, because who doesn’t want that, and I’d like to see more from Noah. He and Blue shared a really nice moment in this book and I would very much enjoy seeing more of their friendship. 

The plot had me completely gripped and often a little creeped out. I could picture those horrific dream creatures so vividly and I honestly wouldn’t mind never having to think about them again. 

The mystery of Glendower is still only just beginning and I’m itching to find out more. I have now learned from my mistake and I will not be leaving it another year to start the next book, Blue Lily, Lily Blue.
