To Be Read: May 2021

I am really excited about the books I want to read in May. April at times was a super tough reading month and I want to get past that by reading great books.

I again have a few arcs that I will be reading, one of which I go into greater detail in this post. My arcs for May are; The Boyband Murder Mystery by Eva Eldred and Unravel The Dusk by Elizabeth Lim. If you read one of my most recent reviews then you will know I am overly excited to read Unravel The Dusk

As I am back at work full time now I don’t know just how many of these books I will get to read, other than the arcs as they take top priority. I do however want to read some of the books I already own. The top one on my list being Crooked Kingdom as I finally made myself reading Six of Crows and I need more of the crows in my life. Plus I just finished the Netflix adaptation of Shadow and Bone and oh wow. I won’t talk about it here as I have my monthly watched post coming up next week. So if you want to read my thoughts on the show you can do so then.

I would have talked about Crooked Kingdom in this post however I was feeling too lazy to take a picture for it. Sorry!

The Boyband Murder Mystery by Ava Eldred

This sounded too interesting to pass up. I love a murder mystery and pairing it with a boyband and a team of fangirls trying to solve it, I’m sold.

The idea of fangirls trying to solve a real murder case definitely sounds like an amazing plot for a book and I can’t wait to see how fan culture will be intertwined with this mystery.

I have never read anything by Ava Eldred so I’m excited to see what her style is like. I have high hopes for this arc and I really hope they are not misplaced. My review for The Boyband Murder Mystery will be posted around the 20th of May.

Goodreads synopsis: “Harri and her best friends worship Half Light – an internationally famous boyband. When frontman Frankie is arrested on suspicion of murdering his oldest friend Evan, Harri feels like her world’s about to fall apart. But quickly she realises that she – and all the other Half Light superfans out there – know and understand much more about these boys than any detective ever could.

Now she’s rallying a fangirl army to prove Frankie’s innocence – and to show the world that you should never underestimate a teenage girl with a passion…”

Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

I have wanted to read this for so long and I have finally decided to do it. As I read a lot of fantasy I’ve found that I really enjoy and get through contemporary romances quite fast.

The change in pace with this type of book will be welcome after the sheer amount of fantasy I have been reading lately.

That is not the only reason why I want to read Red, White and Royal Blue. I have heard a ridiculous amount of great things about this book so I of course need to read it myself. Luckily I have stayed clear of spoilers so I honestly don’t know much about the plot. I am however excited to see what happens.

Goodreads synopsis: “First Son Alex Claremont-Diaz is the closest thing to a prince this side of the Atlantic. With his intrepid sister and the Veep’s genius granddaughter, they’re the White House Trio, a beautiful millennial marketing strategy for his mother, President Ellen Claremont. International socialite duties do have downsides—namely, when photos of a confrontation with his longtime nemesis Prince Henry at a royal wedding leak to the tabloids and threaten American/British relations. The plan for damage control: staging a fake friendship between the First Son and the Prince.

As President Claremont kicks off her reelection bid, Alex finds himself hurtling into a secret relationship with Henry that could derail the campaign and upend two nations. What is worth the sacrifice? How do you do all the good you can do? And, most importantly, how will history remember you?”

Have you planned which books you want to read next month? If yes let me know which one you are most excited for!
