To Be Read: June 2021

My to be read for June 2021 is going to be a short one. Which I know I have been saying for the last couple of months, but honestly it needs to be short.

This month I have been really struggling to find time and motivation to read. I’m currently still reading an arc that I started almost two weeks ago and I’m only just over 60% through.

Working full time is killing my love for reading, something that I’m hoping will get better over time. I haven’t sat down just to read for what feels like an extremely long time, so next month I’m going to attempt to make more time to read.

This Poison Heart by Kalynn Bayron

I really liked Cinderella Is Dead so I was over the moon when I got the opportunity to read an arc of this.

If you’ve been following Young Creative Press for a while then you will know that I love retellings, especially when they have a fun twist. Kalynn seems to have a real talent for taking classic stories and giving them a new lease of life and I am here for it.

Cinderella Is Dead was super inventive and I am sure that this book will be the same. Keep your eyes peeled for my review of This Poison Heart which will be posted around mid June.

Goodreads synopsis: “Briseis has a gift: she can grow plants from tiny seeds to rich blooms with a single touch.

When Briseis’s aunt dies and wills her a dilapidated estate in rural New York, Bri and her parents decide to leave Brooklyn behind for the summer. Hopefully there, surrounded by plants and flowers, Bri will finally learn to control her gift. But their new home is sinister in ways they could never have imagined–it comes with a specific set of instructions, an old-school apothecary, and a walled garden filled with the deadliest botanicals in the world that can only be entered by those who share Bri’s unique family lineage.

When strangers begin to arrive on their doorstep, asking for tinctures and elixirs, Bri learns she has a surprising talent for creating them. One of the visitors is Marie, a mysterious young woman who Bri befriends, only to find that Marie is keeping dark secrets about the history of the estate and its surrounding community. There is more to Bri’s sudden inheritance than she could have imagined, and she is determined to uncover it . . . until a nefarious group comes after her in search of a rare and dangerous immortality elixir. Up against a centuries-old curse and the deadliest plant on earth, Bri must harness her gift to protect herself and her family.”

Apologies for the super short post, however, I am trying to not put pressure on myself to always write really long posts. I’ve been saying it for a while now but I’m still trying to find a good balance between work, blogging and allowing myself time to relax.

Let me know what books you are excited to read in June!

  1. I’ll be looking forward to your review on this! And I totally understand working full time and struggling to have an interest in reading. I didn’t blog much last year because of this. You’re doing great and I’m glad to see content from you! 💚💚
