During the past month, I actually managed to read quite a lot, so I’m excited to see what August will hold. As per usual I have tonnes of ARCs to read, some of which I can’t talk about and I have also decided I need to start reading the books on my actual shelves.
I have just two picks for August as I will be reading a couple of seasonal books which I am sure no one wants to hear about just yet. Anyway, enjoy my to be read for August!
Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows #2) by Leigh Bardugo
I have been putting this off for months and I think it’s about time I actually read it. Now I have seen spoilers, which is part of why I am putting it off, so don’t worry I am aware I will be getting my heartbroken.
I’m trying really hard to read at least one physical book every month because I’ve really been neglecting the books on my shelves.
Kaz Brekker is my whole life right now and I just need more of him. The characters of this world have a very special place in my heart and I cannot wait to jump back into crime and mischief with the crows.
Goodreads synopsis: “Kaz Brekker and his crew of deadly outcasts have just pulled off a heist so daring even they didn’t think they’d survive. But instead of divvying up a fat reward, they’re right back to fighting for their lives.
Double-crossed and badly weakened, the crew is low on resources, allies, and hope. As powerful forces from around the world descend on Ketterdam to root out the secrets of the dangerous drug known as jurda parem, old rivals and new enemies emerge to challenge Kaz’s cunning and test the team’s fragile loyalties.
A war will be waged on the city’s dark and twisting streets – a battle for revenge and redemption that will decide the fate of the Grisha world.”
All These Bodies by Kendare Blake
*I was kindly sent an arc of this book and I do not currently have a photo for this post. Oops*
I have wanted to read Kendare’s books for years now, but have unfortunately never gotten around to it. Three Dark Crowns has been sitting on my TBR since it came out.
I’ve never been much of a thriller or mystery reader however I have found recently that I am enjoying the genre a lot more. Basically, I’m super excited to read All These Bodies and I’m looking forward to reviewing it.
Goodreads synopsis: “Sixteen bloodless bodies. Two teenagers. One impossible explanation.
Summer 1958—a string of murders plagues the Midwest. The victims are found in their cars and in their homes—even in their beds—their bodies drained, but with no blood anywhere.
September 19- the Carlson family is slaughtered in their Minnesota farmhouse, and the case gets its first lead: 15-year-old Marie Catherine Hale is found at the scene. She is covered in blood from head to toe, and at first, she’s mistaken for a survivor. But not a drop of the blood is hers.
Michael Jensen, son of the local sheriff, yearns to become a journalist and escape his small-town. He never imagined that the biggest story in the country would fall into his lap, or that he would be pulled into the investigation when Marie decides that he is the only one she will confess to.
As Marie recounts her version of the story, it falls to Michael to find the truth: What really happened the night that the Carlsons were killed? And how did one girl wind up in the middle of all these bodies?”
