What I Watched: October 2021

October has absolutely flown by and I can’t believe it’s November already. When sitting down to think about everything I watched during October I was surprised that the month seemed to move so quickly when I actually watched more than usual. On an average month, I find that I don’t have a lot of free time to sit and watch films and TV shows, but apparently during October that wasn’t the case.

Now I did have to take a few days off work because I was unwell which is when the majority of the films mentioned were watched. I basically just lay in bed working my way through the Halloween section on Disney Plus.

Films

I don’t think I have ever watched as many films in a month as I did in October. Basically, as it was Halloween last month I watched more films because there was a theme to the month. Does that make sense or am I weird?

I kicked off the month by watching Spiderman, which I know contradicts my last statement. However, when the original Spiderman was added to Netflix I couldn’t not watch it. Honestly, those films are absolutely hilarious now, but I do remember loving them as a kid.

Muppets Haunted Mansion was my second film of the month and oh my was I disappointed with it. Please tell me I wasn’t the only one who thought it was going to be a Muppets version of Disney’s Haunted Mansion?

Much to my boyfriend’s distaste, we watched Hocus Pocus. He isn’t a massive fan of the film, but I really like it. I don’t normally make him watch films I know he doesn’t like, however it was my birthday so it was my choice. Plus during the day we went to the cinema and he picked Venom even though it was my birthday so it was only fair.

Speaking of seeing Venom in the cinema, it was my first trip to the cinema in about two years and it did feel a little strange. It was a nice thing to do for my birthday and even though I didn’t choose the film (I am a huge marvel fan but it wouldn’t have been my first choice) I did enjoy it. I actually thought it was really funny and I love that it doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Continuing with my watching of everything Halloween Disney Plus has to offer I spent my two sick days in bed doing nothing but watch tv. I finally watched the Descendants films (I’m yet to watch the latest one) and honestly I really enjoyed them. Some of the songs were quite cringe, but I really liked the other parts. I knew I would like them but just put them off for some reason.

An absolute Halloween classic and a film I watch every October is Halloween Town. I adore these films and how nostalgic they make me feel. Myself and my sister used to watch them when we were younger and it’s pretty much a tradition to watch them every year now.

Tv shows

Just like everyone else on the planet I watched Squid Game last month. Although I will admit that I am yet to finish it so no spoilers please.

Another series that I am yet to finish is You season three. I love this show and its major creepy vibes. It was a very suitable watch for October and I am hoping to finish the last few episodes during the first part of November.

I couldn’t not watch The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina during October. I LOVE this show. It is one of my favorites of all time and it was about time I went in for a rewatch. As someone who is named after the original Sabrina (she is Melissa Joan, I am Melissa Jayne) it would be a crime for me to not be obsessed with everything about Sabrina. I’ve also just started reading the graphic novels, because well, I’m obsessed.

The show that I actually watched the most last month was Superstore. I remember watching it when it first came out, but I couldn’t keep up with watching it as it came out – my biggest downfall when it comes to watching series. Now that it’s on Netflix I have been binging it.

I didn’t really mean to get through it so fast but the episodes are only 20 minutes each so I got through the series really fast. Plus it’s easy watching that I like to leave on in the background when I’m working.

Youtube

After falling extremely behind on Clare Siobhan’s Not So Berry series I decided to try and catch up last month. I needed something (that wasn’t Superstore) to put on in the background when doing work or cleaning and it was the perfect thing. I’m now a few episodes into her pink generation so I’ve done quite well to catch up.

As someone that absolutely cannot play horror games, I am very grateful for gaming Youtubers – Jacksepticeye in particular. The latest Dark Pictures Anthology game; House of Ashes, was released last week and both myself and my boyfriend watched his playthrough. It wasn’t my favourite of the series, but it was a visually stunning game.

After watching his House of Ashes playthrough we decided to watch Jacksepticeyes Until Dawn videos. Until Dawn is one of my favourite games of all time and it just made sense to watch it in October.

Basically, my month was spent watching a lot of spooky films and TV shows. I like to use the excuse of Halloween for watching horror games and shows, but honestly, they’re basically all I watch anyway.
