The Best Of: Beautiful Book Covers #7

I’m not sure if I’ve done too many posts of this type yet, but there are just so many great covers around and I love sharing them.

As always I will be including the Goodreads synopsis of each book just in case the covers pique your interest.

Unravel the Dusk (The Blood of Stars #2) by Elizabeth Lim

This is such a striking cover. The red is super bold and so eye-catching and as always Maia (the main character) looks absolutely stunning. Massive props to Elizabeth Lim for having two of the most beautiful covers I have ever seen.

The little pops of purple really make this cover for me. I love accent colours and purple just happens to be one of the best colours (if you couldn’t tell from the layout of this blog).

Goodreads synopsis: “Maia Tamarin’s journey to sew the dresses of the sun, the moon and the stars has taken a grievous toll. She returns to a kingdom on the brink of war. The boy she loves is gone, and she is forced to don the dress of the sun and assume the place of the emperor’s bride-to-be to keep the peace.

But the war raging around Maia is nothing compared to the battle within. Ever since she was touched by the demon Bandur, she has been changing . . . glancing in the mirror to see her own eyes glowing red, losing control of her magic, her body, her mind. It’s only a matter of time before Maia loses herself completely, but she will stop at nothing to find Edan, protect her family, and bring lasting peace to her country.”

A Pho Love Story by Loan Le

This style of cover is just the best. I cannot tell you just how many books I have brought purely because they have a cover like this. Cartoon art styles will always be better than real people because let’s be honest everyone hates covers with actual people on.

I’m obsessed with the pink/purple on this cover. Is it because it’s extremely similar to the colour of the Young Creative Press logo? Yeah probably. Although I will admit that I’ve only just made that connection after sitting down to write this post.

Goodreads synopsis: “If Bao Nguyen had to describe himself, he’d say he was a rock. Steady and strong, but not particularly interesting. His grades are average, his social status unremarkable. He works at his parents’ pho restaurant, and even there, he is his parents’ fifth favourite employee.

If Linh Mai had to describe herself, she’d say she was a firecracker. Stable when unlit, but full of potential for joy and spark and fire. She loves art, and she dreams of making a career of it one day. The only problem? Her parents rely on her in ways they’re not willing to admit, including expecting her to work practically full-time at their family’s pho restaurant.

For decades, the Mais and the Nguyens have been at odds, having owned competing, neighbouring pho restaurants. Bao and Linh have resolved never to befriend each other, for fear of pushing too far and bringing on undue heartbreak. But when a chance encounter brings Linh and Bao closer, sparks fly”

B*Witch (b*witch #1) by Paige Mckenzie and Nancy Ohlin

The cover is the biggest reason why I checked out this book. It is gorgeous.

You can really tell by now that I love a very specific type of cover. Always the cartoon or drawn art-style. Get those real people away from me.

I love how well depicted the characters are, you can actually see their personalities even though it’s a static image. Big praise to the artist, who unfortunately I do not know the name of.

Goodreads synopsis: “New girl and secret witch Iris just wants to get through her first day of school without a panic attack. The last thing she expects is to be taken in by a coven of three witches-soft-spoken Greta, thoughtful and musical Ridley, and fiery and spirited Binx. They may be the first witches Iris has met IRL, but their coven is not alone in their small northwestern town.

The Triad is the other coven at their school. When the Triad’s not using spells to punish their exes or break up happy couples for fun, they practice dark magic. The two covens have a rivalry stretching all the way back to junior high.

When tragedy strikes and one of their own is murdered, the rival covens must band together to find out who is responsible before it’s too late. Someone’s anti-witch ideology has turned deadly . . . and one of them is next.”
