Book Haul: June 2022

I did say I wouldn’t be doing book haul posts every month and honestly I wasn’t planning to do a haul post this month as I haven’t been buying many books. However, I need something easy to post today (my streak of staying on top of posts has well and truly ended) as I’m working at my full-time job all day and also have a photography job tonight. Let me know if you’d be interested in seeing my gig photography featured on the site.

Anyway enough of that, onto my (short) book haul.

One of us is Lying by Karen M. McManus

I’ve had the ebook version of this for years but have never read it. I was thinking about reading it after watching the show (which I enjoyed) but then I came across it on Audible and saw that it has a full cast. Now if you’ve been reading Young Creative Press for a while you’ll know how much I love full cast audiobooks. Which meant I couldn’t resist getting the audio version of this.

Technically I did buy this book as I used one of my monthly credits so this does actually count as part of a haul. Right?

Also just want to add that I hate the TV version and I’m really annoyed that my ebook changed to that cover.

Goodreads synopsis: Pay close attention and you might solve this.

On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.

Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.

Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.

Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.

Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.

And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High’s notorious gossip app.

Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention Simon’s dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn’t an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he’d planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who’s still on the loose?

Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.

The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling

I remember this book being popular on Twitter when it came out but I can’t remember if what I was seeing was positive. Which probably leads you to think “why did you buy it?”. Well I’ll tell you. It was £3 from The Works! Yes that’s right £3. They have loads of great books in at the moment so you should definitely have a look in there for some bargains.

I don’t have any plans to read this yet as I might say it as an October/Halloweeen read.

Goodreads synopsis: Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend. Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but with only an “orchard hayride” scented candle on hand, she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two.

That is until Rhys Penhallow, descendent of the town’s ancestors, breaker of hearts, and annoyingly just as gorgeous as he always was, returns to Graves Glen, Georgia. What should be a quick trip to recharge the town’s ley lines and make an appearance at the annual fall festival turns disastrously wrong. With one calamity after another striking Rhys, Vivi realizes her silly little Ex Hex may not have been so harmless after all.

Suddenly, Graves Glen is under attack from murderous wind-up toys, a pissed off ghost, and a talking cat with some interesting things to say. Vivi and Rhys have to ignore their off the charts chemistry to work together to save the town and find a way to break the break-up curse before it’s too late.
