It’s been a hot minute since I’ve talked about Kindle Unlimited on Young Creative Press. The reason for that, honestly, is that I haven’t been using it very much due to the mountains of ARCs I am currently sitting on. Lately, however, I have found myself using the service again after getting three months free with my new Kindle, thanks Amazon! 

There are some really great books on Kindle Unlimited and today I have three in particular that  I wanted to share. 

Zodiac Academy: The Awakening by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti 

I’ll be honest and say that I wasn’t sold on this series at first as the writing felt very childish and cringey. Maybe that’s just because I’m not a teenager anymore. However, I am now on book four so obviously, I am enjoying it otherwise I wouldn’t have continued. 

I do think with this series you need to give it some time. I wasn’t convinced of the hype until very recently, this changed mostly when I got to the end of book two as the story actually started going somewhere. You can read my (pretty harsh) review here.

Goodreads synopsis: If you’re one of the Fae, elemental magic is in your blood. And apparently, it’s in ours. As twins born in the month of Gemini, we’re a rare breed even in this academy of supernatural a-holes.

Changelings were outlawed hundreds of years ago but I guess our birth parents didn’t get the memo. Which means we’re totally unprepared for the ruthless world of Fae.

Air. Fire. Water. Earth.

A Dance with the Fae Prince by Elise Kova 

For me, Elise Kova is the queen of Kindle Unlimited. I love her books so much that I can’t believe you can (technically) read them for free. Back in August 2021, I was lucky enough to be given an advanced copy of this book, an opportunity I sadly missed out on for the next installment of the Married To Magic series, my own fault though I forgot to fill out the ARC request. 

Anyway, I digress. This is such a great standalone novel and honestly, I can’t recommend it enough. If you are interested in my full opinions of A Dance with the Fae Prince you can do so here.  

Goodreads synopsis: She knew her hand in marriage would be sold. She had no idea a fae prince was the buyer.

The Siren by Kiera Cass 

I read this a very long time ago, but I do remember really enjoying it. The Siren wasn’t my first read by Kiera Cass as I had given The Selection series a go. Sadly I never finished it as I believe I was getting them from the library and they never seemed to have the next installment so I just gave up. Let me know if I should give it another try. 

I love anything to do with sirens and mermaids so this is right up my street. It was an interesting take on the classic siren lore and I really enjoyed it. Also you can’t beat a good romance subplot.  

Goodreads synopsis: “You must never do anything that might expose our secret. This means that, in general, you cannot form close bonds with humans. You can speak to us, and you can always commune with the Ocean, but you are deadly to humans. You are, essentially, a weapon. A very beautiful weapon. I won’t lie to you, it can be a lonely existence, but once you are done, you get to live. All you have to give, for now, is obedience and time…”

The same speech has been given hundreds of times to hundreds of beautiful girls who enter the sisterhood of sirens. Kahlen has lived by these rules for years now, patiently waiting for the life she can call her own. But when Akinli, a human, enters her world, she can’t bring herself to live by the rules anymore. Suddenly the life she’s been waiting for doesn’t seem nearly as important as the one she’s living now.
