To Be Read: Audible Originals

Audiobooks were something that I never thought I would get into, I always told myself that I’d never listen to one. Well fast-forward to 2022 and I’ve already listened to nine this year. I’m enjoying the ability to read a book whilst doing graphic design work and cleaning, it’s quite handy to get through your reading challenge.

Today I wanted to mention a few Audible Originals I have sitting in my library that I’m planning to read over the next few months.

The Comeback by Lily Chu

I really enjoyed The Stand-In so when I saw that Lily Chu had another book coming out I knew I needed to listen to it soon. If you have Audible Plus then I definitely recommend you check both of them out. I will most likely do a review of The Comeback once I’ve listened to it so keep an eye out.

Synopsis: Who is Ariadne Hui?

• Laser-focused lawyer diligently climbing the corporate ladder

• The “perfect” daughter living out her father’s dream

• Shocking love interest of South Korea’s hottest star

Ariadne Hui thrives on routine. So what if everything in her life is planned down to the minute: That’s the way she likes it. If she’s going to make partner in Toronto’s most prestigious law firm, she needs to stay focused at all times.

But when she comes home after yet another soul-sucking day to find an unfamiliar, gorgeous man camped out in her living room, focus is the last thing on her mind. Especially when her roommate explains this is Choi Jihoon, her cousin freshly arrived from Seoul to mend a broken heart. He just needs a few weeks to rest and heal; Ari will barely even know he’s there. (Yeah, right.)

Jihoon is kindness and chaos personified, and it isn’t long before she’s falling, hard. But when one wrong step leads to a world-shaking truth, Ari finds herself thrust onto the world stage: not as the competent, steely lawyer she’s fought so hard to become, but as the mystery woman on the arm of a man the entire world claims to know. Now with her heart, her future, and her sense of self on the line, Ari will have to cut through all the pretty lies to find the truth of her relationship…and discover the Ariadne Hui she’s finally ready to be.

Sun of a Beach by Mia Sosa

I’m hoping this will be a fun summer listen. With all of this warm weather we are having in the UK I’ve really been craving a great beach read, especially as I can literally listen to this on the beach. I’ve never read a Mia Sosa book before so I’m excited to see how good this is.

Synopsis: No-nonsense executive Naomi Reyes can’t believe she let her boss manipulate her into babysitting Donovan Taylor, the most insufferable creative director of all time. Worse, she’ll be trapped on a private island with him, while a bevy of gorgeous models vie for a coveted chance to grace the cover of M-Class magazine’s inaugural swimsuit edition—and, if the office rumors are true, an equally coveted place in Donovan’s bed. Still, if she survives the trip with no major mishaps, she’ll earn a shot at landing a dream job as an M-Class writer. Easy peasy, right?

Wrong.

Donovan Taylor detests people who try to undermine his artistic control, and his boss’s latest machinations send Donovan to a very devious place. Sure, Ms. Reyes will get her precious photo shoot, but it won’t be what she expects. Bonus? Ruffling the feathers of the humorless exec who’s never liked Donovan will be satisfying, too—assuming she doesn’t drown him in the ocean first.

Let the beach games begin . . .

A Tail as Old as Time by Elle Hay

This looks super cute. Not going to lie I was only drawn to this because of the promise of cute pets. I’m such a sucker for books about dogs, hopefully, this one is good? I am yet to find an exceptionally great book from Audible Originals, but hey maybe there’s one on this list?

Synopsis: Ever since Alana Diaz adopted her cat Furrari, she has found herself in a feud with her infuriating neighbor, whom she knows only by the name on the passive aggressive notes he leaves on her door – R. Jones. Alana works hard all day, and the last thing she needs when she finally relaxes on her balcony with a glass of wine and her new furry roommate is her neighbor’s dog barking his head off. The only solution is to retreat inside. So what if her neighbor has smoldering good looks? It’s ruined when he glares at her little fuzzball of joy for upsetting his dog Kevin. And who the hell names their dog Kevin, anyway?

But when Furrari and Kevin both go missing, Alana and Jones are left with no choice but to team up. As their pets lead them through the beaches, fancy hotels, and more all over Coral Gables, two lonely, jaded people might find they’ve been chasing the wrong things all along.
