Best Character of The Episode
I don’t know if he was named a main character at this point, but I love Luke.
Any scene with him and Lorelai in is just a joy to watch. Their chemistry has always been off the charts and the scene where they are talking about Lorelai not going to dinner with one of the Chilton dads is so good.
Best supporting/obscure character
Michel is great in this episode. His constant referral to himself as Lorelai’s “pooch” because he’s always getting her for phone calls is so funny. I love his dry sense of humour.
Favourite Scene
I really like the scene where Rory and Lorelai are sitting in the car outside Chilton. There are so many funny lines and they are such a believable mother-daughter duo.
Sookie and Jackson fighting about peaches must also be mentioned. I love their dynamic they are hilarious. Sookie rolling peaches on the floor is so funny.
Best Quotes/Lines
Lorelai “Well, look at me! I can’t meet anyone who does anything in there. I look like that chick from the ‘Dukes of Hazzard’.”
If you don’t think Lorelai Gilmore is one of the funniest characters ever created you are wrong. I’m sorry I don’t make the rules. She’s completely embarrassed wearing an insanely inappropriate outfit to Rory’s first day at Chilton and she’s still cracking jokes. What an icon.
Emily to Lorelai: “Do you need a ride or is your horse parked outside?”
This is by far my favourite line of the episode. Emily Gilmore is lowkey the funniest character. I do feel bad for Lorelai though, her mom can be quite mean to her and at the end of the day I will always side with Lorelai. Still funny though.
Lorelai to Luke: “See, now that’s why you were voted Mr. Personality of the New Millennium. Where’s your crown?”
I love any interaction between Lorelai and Luke, especially the years before they get together. It’s so obvious to everyone that they like each other, well other than themselves apparently.
Lorelai: “Wow. Biblical insults. This is an advanced school.”
This is when Lorelai and Rory are talking about how Tristan keeps calling Rory ‘Mary’. I don’t know why this makes me laugh so much but it’s so funny. Not funny for Rory, it’s actually a bit offensive.
Favourite Outfit
The outfit Lorelai wears to Chilton is hilarious. She looks like “the chick from The Dukes of Hazzard” her words not mine. It will never not be funny when the headmaster asks her if she wants to take off her coat and she reluctantly reveals her crazy outfit.
Favourite Setting
Honestly, as the majority of this show takes place in the same four settings it’s going to be difficult to have a different favourite for each episode. However, in this episode, I love the Independence Inn. It’s so cosy and actually quite luxurious. Some of my favourite moments happen there in this episode.
Best Musical Moment
I don’t think this will be a section I can talk about for every episode as there aren’t really any musical moments in most episodes. The opening track is always one I can talk about because I love it and I don’t know what you call them but the ‘ah’ track that plays all the time it great. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Thoughts/Opinions That Don’t Fit Into A Specific Category
I totally forgot that Kirk wasn’t a character to begin with. He’s ‘Mick’ who is at Lorelai’s house to install a DSL.
I’ve wanted to re-watch Gilmore Girls for so long now and I’m glad to finally have an excuse to do so. Not that I really needed an excuse but it’s fun to be analysing one of my favourite shows of all time.

It’s so good! Very autumnal too so it’s the perfect time to start it
Great 😊 I might start it this weekend!
The scene where Lorelai has to reveal her outfit is SUCH a good one–absolutely cringing inside for her! I really want to rewatch now, haha.
It’s definitely one of the funniest in the entire show! You should 100% rewatch, it’s the perfect time of year for it
It is! I saw a meme about that the other day, that Lorelai and Rory’s power grows as autumn comes, and it’s funny because it’s true!
