Best Character

Charlie really goes through a lot in this episode and I feel like his character doesn’t get enough attention. It’s weird isn’t it that Heartstopper is mostly about Charlie and yet he feels to me like a character people rarely talk about.

This must have been a difficult episode for Joe to film and honestly he did an incredible job. Sometimes I forget this is his first acting job, that’s how good he is.

Best Supporting/Obscure Character

Tao’s mom is so cute. She can clearly see that they like each other and it’s quite funny. She’s only in the episode for a few seconds but I love her.

Favourite Scenes

Nick calling Charlie ‘Char’ for the first time is hands down one of the best moments in the whole series. It’s one of my favourite moments in the graphic novel and they did it so well. Joe really captures the sarcastic nature of Charlie very well and Kit is great at Nick’s bashfulness. God I love them so much.

I also really love the scene in the cinema where Nick gets scared and grabs Charlie’s hand. He then holds his hand properly as no one is paying attention to them, well that’s what they think anyway. If you look close enough you can see that Ben has noticed and Bash did such a good job of making it obvious yet subtle. If that makes sense?

The scene itself isn’t pleasant but Nick punching Harry brings me pure joy. Not much else I can say about that.

Best Quotes/Lines

CHARLIE: Jesus, Tori.

TORI: What? How do you just appear out of nowhere?

TORI: Older sister magic.

Tori’s one liners are always funny and this one has to be my favourite. There’s something about ‘older sister magic’ that’s hilarious, especially the way that Jenny delivered it.

CHARLIE: They all probably think I’m this, like, gay nerd.

NICK: Well, you kind of are a gay nerd.

CHARLIE: ( laughs ) Shut up, rugby lad.

Yet more flirting from Nick and Charlie but what else do you expect by now? The teasing of Charlie being ‘a gay nerd’ is very cute.

TAO: You clearly didn’t get hugged much as a child, but if you’re craving human contact that badly, you could just say so.

I love all of Tao’s comebacks to Harry. This one is definitely my favourite, hit him where it hurts Tao. Personally I like to think he practises them in the mirror before school every morning just in case.

Favourite Outfit

Elle’s white cropped vest with the flowers is so cute. I’m pretty sure Yaz took this from the set and I don’t blame her I would have too.

Favourite Setting

I enjoyed the cinema setting a lot, but not what goes down there obviously. There’s something about cinemas that’s really cosy and the lighting of this one in particular really sells that vibe. I hate what happens in the cinema scenes but I love it as a setting.

Best Musical Moment

Smokey Eyes plays during Tao and Harry’s fight and also closes out the episode. A lot happens during the short section of the song and although it’s chaotic I love it. There’s so much emotion from Tao in those moments, he goes from angry to hurt and pretty much back to angry again. Big up Will for an excellent performance in this episode.

Thoughts/Opinions That Don’t Fit Into A Specific Category

I hate Ben so much, why was he creeping in the car park waiting for Charlie?

It was so wrong of Elle to tell Tao about Nick and Charlie. It’s so out of character for her and I’m left wondering why Alice Oseman made that choice.
