I’m quite the fan of book adaptations and there are quite a few good ones coming soon(ish). There are a few I’ve been waiting for what feels like years for some of them, so let’s hope they don’t disappoint when they do come out.
If you know of any other adaptations coming soon that I haven’t talked about please let me know!
Red, White & Royal Blue (film) – Prime Video – Date TBA

When oh when are we getting this adaptation? It honestly feels like years since it was announced and I’m getting impatient now.
A few months ago I was thinking it would be released around Christmas, as part of the book takes place at Christmas, but I guess not as there’s no news yet.
Either way I’m so flipping excited for this. I was quite obsessed with the book at one point and I hope to god they’ve done it justice.
Synopsis: When his mother became President, Alex Claremont-Diaz was promptly cast as the American equivalent of a young royal. Handsome, charismatic, genius—his image is pure millennial-marketing gold for the White House. There’s only one problem: Alex has a beef with the actual prince, Henry, across the pond. And when the tabloids get hold of a photo involving an Alex-Henry altercation, U.S./British relations take a turn for the worse.
Heads of family, state, and other handlers devise a plan for damage control: staging a truce between the two rivals. What at first begins as a fake, Instragramable friendship grows deeper, and more dangerous, than either Alex or Henry could have imagined. Soon Alex finds himself hurtling into a secret romance with a surprisingly unstuffy Henry that could derail the campaign and upend two nations and begs the question: Can love save the world after all? Where do we find the courage, and the power, to be the people we are meant to be? And how can we learn to let our true colors shine through?
His Dark Materials (season three) – BBC/HBO Max – 5th December 2022

I’ve been waiting far too long for this, my excitement is off the charts. The series is absolutely incredible, both TV and the books.
If you haven’t watched this yet, you absolutely must. It’s one of the best book adaptations I’ve ever seen. There’s only 15 episodes so you have plenty of time to catch up before the final season.
As I am talking about the third season I’ve included the synopsis for the third book. So please be aware it may contain spoilers.
Synopsis: Will is the bearer of the knife. Now, accompanied by angels, his task is to deliver that powerful, dangerous weapon to Lord Asriel – by the command of his dying father.
But how can he go looking for Lord Asriel when Lyra is gone? Only with her help can he fathom the myriad plots and intrigues that beset him.
The two great powers of the many worlds are lining up for war, and Will must find Lyra, for together they are on their way to battle, an inevitable journey that will even take them to the world of the dead…
Uglies (film) – Netflix – 2023

I’m not a huge fan of this series, but I’m interested to see what the adaptation will be like. I quite like Joey King and actually, she’s the perfect casting for Tally.
There hasn’t been much news about this adaptation yet, but from what I can see it looks like it’s still going ahead.
Synopsis: Tally is about to turn sixteen, and she can’t wait. In just a few weeks she’ll have the operation that will turn her from a repellent ugly into a stunning pretty. And as a pretty, she’ll be catapulted into a high-tech paradise where her only job is to have fun.
But Tally’s new friend Shay isn’t sure she wants to become a pretty. When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world—and it isn’t very pretty. The authorities offer Tally a choice: find her friend and turn her in, or never turn pretty at all. Tally’s choice will change her world forever….
