Review:
It took me three years, but I’ve finally finished this series. What an emotional rollercoaster it has been. I freaking loved it. There is something about this series that is so magical and all-consuming, it’s really something special.
There may be a few smallish spoilers in this review, I’m not going to mention anything in detail though.
The biggest thing I have to say about The Raven King is how anti-climactic the ending was. Don’t get me wrong it’s not necessarily a bad thing, I like how it ended, but I excepted more. Especially as four books worth of tension had been built.
I never thought I’d be saying this, but Ronan has become my favourite character. He grew so much over the four books and in The Raven King, he was such a sweet boy. Especially how his relationship with Adam grew, their scenes made me quite emotional.
Another thing I never thought I’d be saying is I got a bit bored of Blue and Gansey as a couple once they’d gotten past the angst of not feeling like they could be together. Don’t get me wrong, I adore them and they are very cute, but the spark of their relationship had fizzled out for me. Probably because of Ronan and Adam. I think a lot of people agree with me on this.
I’m now left wondering if this is a series I would consider reading again. I think the answer to that is yes, but not anytime soon. The Raven Cycle has definitely become one of my favourite series of all time. Unfortunately, I ruined the reading experience for myself as it took me way too long to get through all four books, but it was definitely worth it in the end.
At some point in the near future I will probably check out the Dreamer trilogy, which up until a few months ago, I did not know existed. I am 100% up for more Ronan in my life and I’d love to learn even more about his dreamer powers.
The Raven King was a solid end to an amazing series. The world of The Raven Cycle is completely captivating and the prose reads like poetry. It’s one of the best series I have read in a while and it will remain a firm favourite of mine.
