Zooey Deschanel…Jess Day

Jake Johnson…Nick Miller

Max Greenfield…Schmidt

Damon Wayans Jr…Coach

Hannah Simone…Cece Parekh

Mary Elizabeth Ellis…Caroline

Best character

Nick is probably going to appear in this category quite often. I’m a little bit (very much) in love with Jake Johnson and Nick is one of my favourite TV characters of all time.

I especially love him in this episode, he’s already protective of Jess and I don’t know if anyone else will agree with me, but you can see the moment he started to fall for her.

Best supporting character

I can technically give this to Coach as he doesn’t actually appear in the show again until season three.

Favourite scene

Jess crying whilst watching Dirty Dancing within the first week of her moving in is very funny. What a great first impression to make.

I love all of the flashback scenes, genuinely this is one of the funniest shows ever made. Nick’s awful British accent is what really sells his character to me.

Hold me back Coach is definitely the funniest moment of the entire episode. Schmidt is one of my favourite characters.

Best quotes/lines

JESS: So you know in horror movies when the girl’s like: “Oh, my God, there’s something in the basement. Let me just run down there in my underwear and see what’s going on.” And you’re like, “What is your problem? Call the police.” She’s like, “Okay,” but it’s too late because she’s getting murdered? Well, my story’s kind of like that.

SCHMIDT: This is LLS. Ladies Love Schmidt.

JESS: Like Gandalf through Middle-earth?

SCHMIDT: Probably not like…okay, first of all, let’s take the Lord of the Rings references, let’s put ’em in a deep, dark cave, okay, where no one’s gonna find them, ever.

JESS: Except Smeagol, (whispering) he lives in a cave.

CECE: Please put your shirt back on. Please don’t make me laugh at you.

NICK: WE’RE HERE! (Running in with the guys) Yup, we’re here, Jess! We’re here. SCHMIDT: We’re here for the date, the date thing.

WAITRESS: (Shocked) You’re all here, for the date?

NICK: Yeah we are. We’re her boyfriends. We are reverse mormons, one man just isn’t enough for her.

Best musical moment

Jess singing ‘who’s that girl? It’s Jess’ whilst dancing around naked with a pillow is iconic. It also gives me a huge case of second-hand embarrassment, but it’s just who her character is and I love her for it.

I’m also a big fan of Nick, Schmidt and Coach’s version of I’ve Had The Time of My Life. Absolutely iconic.
