Best character
Once again I love Emily in this episode, she’s still quite rude. But the pure joy on her face when she’s caring for Lorelai is so cute. It’s always nice to see them bonding.
Best supporting character
I’m picking Madeline purely because the only thing she actually talks about in this episode is soup.
Favourite scene
I absolutely love the scene where Emily and Lorelai are talking on the sofa and watching TV. It’s one of the first tender moments between them and I love these scenes, they are some of my favourites.
The Dean and Tristan fight is quite possibly the funniest thing. Two of the biggest douchebag characters attempting to hit each other, pure comedy. Looking back I can’t believe I liked Dean to begin with, he’s so annoying.
Best quotes and one liners
EMILY: [Dean has honked, as arranged when picking up Rory] It certainly is not fine. This is not a drive-through, she’s not fried chicken.
DEAN: [Tristan hits on Rory] What the hell do you think you’re doing? [pushes Tristan]
TRISTAN: You will NOT push me again.
DEAN: Are you seriously trying to act tough? You’re wearing a tie, for God’s sake!
TRISTAN: Outside, now!
DEAN: I’m not fighting you! It’d be like fighting an accountant. I’ll call you when I need my taxes done.
I’m a solid member of the Dean hate club, but you have to admit that last line is pretty funny.
TRISTAN: Well I actually thought you’d like to go with me.
RORY: You did not.
TRISTAN: I did too.
RORY: You did not because you are not stupid.
TRISTAN: Why thank you.
RORY: Slimy and weasely, yes, but stupid, no. You’d have to be stupid to think that, given our history, I would ever, barring a piano or a safe falling on my head, want to go anywhere with you, ever.
EMILY: I’m not leaving my daughter stranded on the couch. What if you need to get to the bathroom?
LORELAI: I don’t go anymore, Mom. I gave it up cold turkey.
Most iconic outfit
I can’t tell if I love or hate Rory’s dress. The colour skirt design is beautiful but I don’t like how high the front is. It looks weird to me. I love the rest of it though, especially as Lorelai made it for her.
Final thoughts and fun facts
Rory misuses the word ‘historic’ when she and Dean are in the car and then Dean referencing back to that moment uses ‘historical’ which is the correct term.
This is the first episode that Luke isn’t in and I hate it (not really). Luke is 100% my favourite character and any episode without him in is a dud if you ask me.
Rory taking a book to the dance with her because it’s a habit to take a book everywhere is so me. I almost never go anywhere without some form of a book.
