Episode synopsis
S1 EP2 – Kryptonite: Nick and Schmidt help Jess get her things out of her ex’s apartment. Later, Jess meets new roomie Winston, who’s back from playing basketball abroad.
Cast
Zooey Deschanel…Jess Day
Jake Johnson…Nick Miller
Max Greenfield…Schmidt
Lamorne Morris…Winston Bishop
Hannah Simone…Cece Parekh
Ian Wolterstorff…Spencer
Best character
Schmidt has the funniest lines in this episode, but Jess really grows as a person. So, it’s a toss-up between the two of them.
Best supporting character
I don’t think I will always include this category for New Girl as the cast is always pretty small for each episode.
Favourite scene
I love the scene where Jess gets her stuff back from Spencer and it devolves into chaos. My favourite part is when Schmidt slaps him. *I do not own this video, all copyright goes to the production studio*
Best quotes and one liners
SCHMIDT: (Pacing back and forth) Can I ask you something?
JESS: You want my help? Sure.
SCHMIDT: You consider me a sexy man, correct?
JESS: I don’t know how to answer that question.
SCHMIDT: (Moves next to Nick) You see that man? It’s my new thumb ring. Hot choice is that. Little skull. It’s so nectar.
NICK: Did you just make up nectar?
SCHMIDT: Nah, it’s a volleyball term.
CECE: Jess, can you please take these doors off child lock so I can kill myself.
WINSTON: Give her the shirt back, man.
SPENCER: What happens if I say no?
SCHMIDT: You know what happens? Schmidt happens! (Slaps Spencer)
SPENCER: Ow. What’s on your hand?
SCHMIDT: Thumb ring, bitch! You got some Schmidt on your face!
Most iconic outfit
Schmidt’s skull thumb ring. It makes two appearances in the episode and is so out of character for him (kind of) that I love it.
I also love the random hats everyone wears when Jess is confronting Spencer. The fact that they put them on shows just how much they love Jess already.
Final thoughts
I did like Coach, but I’m so glad Winston became a thing. He’s so funny and I couldn’t imagine the show without him. The fact that he had pretty much just met Jess and he’s then standing up for her so so cute. I’m now thinking he should have gotten best character, but Schmidt takes the cake this time.
