Best character

I don’t have a particular character I want to give to as usually, I’d pick Luke, but I didn’t like the whole ‘oh you do actually have a loose chick in your house’ thing. It seems so out of character for him to assume Lorelai was asking him round to get frisky.

I did really love the scene between them though, sparks were flying.

Best worst supporting character

If you’ve seen this episode you already know who I’m going to say. Dean is disgusting, especially at the start of the episode where he says: “I don’t know, it all seems kind of nice to me… families hanging together, I mean, a wife cooking dinner for her husband. And look, she looks really happy. What if she likes making doughnuts and dinner for her family and keeping things nice for them and…I feel very unpopular right now.”

If you aren’t anti-Dean after this episode, I really don’t think we can be friends.

Favourite scenes

The scene where Luke and Lorelai are choosing paint for the diner is one of my favourites. They have a pretty deep conversation and when they sit behind the counter together, swoon. I already wanted them to get together at this point, but this scene really sealed the deal. Their chemistry is off the charts, I wish they would have gotten together sooner.

The looking for Stella scene is way too funny. I kind of hate that they made Luke think Lorelai asked him round as a hookup situation. It goes against everything we know about his character so far, I really wouldn’t have thought him as the assuming type.

Best quotes and one liners

LORELAI: Do you come bearing pizza?

DEAN: I’m not an idiot.

RORY: You know, Mom, when I go off to college, I’m gonna be gone every night. What will you do then?

LORELAI: Well, I will go with you. I will sleep on the floor in your dorm, next to your bed. RORY: Well at least you’ve got a plan.

LORELAI: Yes. Um, perhaps you’d like to take a picture of me with you tonight, you know, just in case you get lonely, you can talk to it.

LORELAI: Hey, good. I was just about to leave.

RORY: Where are you going?

LORELAI: To Luke’s. We’re picking out paint colours tonight so it’s going to be hours of “yes,” “no,” “yes,” “no,” “yes,” “no,” until my world-famous perseverance wears him down and he winds up in a ball on the floor crying like a girl. Wanna come watch?

LORELAI: She’s never going anywhere ever again. I’m thinking of slipping some super glue on the bottom of the cage. That would be bad, right? I mean, I know staples are bad but what’s the verdict on superglue?

EMILY: The two of you must come up for the weekend. It is so lovely. Rory would just love it. RORY: Can we go for a weekend?

LORELAI: We’ll see how much Valium Auntie Sookie can lend Mommy, OK?

EMILY: This man was at Rory’s birthday party, he came to the hospital with you, he’s the male lead in every story you tell, you go to the diner every single day. I’ve seen the way he looks at you, the way you look at him. I’m not a fool.

Most iconic worst outfit

Rory’s eyesore of a ‘housewife’ outfit. It makes me literally want to vomit. The whole second half of this episode is cringe.

Best musical moment

This is the first time the town troubadour is present and I don’t know if this is a bit controversial, but I love him. The little musical breaks are refreshing.

Final thoughts and fun facts

This episode still makes me cringe. Dean is such a misogynistic pig, no one wants to make dinner for you every day anyway. Ugh, this is the episode that changed my opinion of him. I was very much anti-Dean from this point forward.

I lost quite a bit of respect for Rory in this episode. She was so instant that the whole Donna Reed thing was ridiculous, so why does she do that weird housewife thing for Dean? Have some self-respect Rory, god damn.

I love Lane’s CD collection that’s hidden under the floorboards across her entire room. I’m a big fan of the ‘pretty boy rock’ section. I love a bit of Bon Jovi.

After much teasing about how they shouldn’t spend too many nights apart, Rory asks Lorelai what she will do when she goes off to college. Lorelai replies with, “Well, I will go with you, I will sleep on the floor in your dorm next to your bed.” Three seasons later this actually happens during Rory’s first night away at Yale.
