Best character

Lorelai is actually great in this episode. I love the moment when she says something absurd because she can tell Rory is very uncomfortable around her other grandparents. They are horrible snobs and Lorelai did the right thing. It’s a shame they were so rude to her after.

She did, however, ditch Luke without telling him just because Christopher is in town and I hate that. I totally forgot she did this, I really don’t like them together. They bring out the worst in each other and I’m so glad they don’t end up together.

Best supporting character

Jackson is very funny in this episode, I especially like how he doesn’t know his own name. He introduces himself to Christopher as ‘Jackson Melville’ but we later learn his name is actually Jackson Belleville.

Richard standing up for Lorelai is iconic. It’s the first time you see him show that he really cares about her and it makes me so happy. He does ruin it with the interaction they have after though, it’s a shame that they are so fickle with their feelings towards her.

Favourite scene

Lorelai and Christopher out on the balcony at her parent’s house is great for just one reason; it makes you realise that when they are together, it’s like they are still 16. Personally, this is why I don’t think they would have worked as a couple, they aren’t mature adults when they are together and this scene proves it. Who the hell gets down and dirty on the balcony of their childhood room? Lorelai does regret it instantly, but it’s still weird.

Best quotes and one liners

LORELAI: Why the hell are you here?

CHRISTOPHER: Behold the queen of the subtle transition.

LORELAI: Why are you here?

CHRISTOPHER: You’re gonna force me to lawyer up officer.

LORELAI: Christopher.

CHRISTOPHER: Ok look. I’ve been making some changes, especially my career and I think I finally have all my ducks lined up in a row.

LORELAI: You’re opening a shooting gallery.

CHRISTOPHER: I’ve been tying up loose ends in my life.

LORELAI: Do they make that much string?

RORY: Hi. [she curtsies]

LORELAI: [whispers] Did you just curtsy?

RORY: [whispers] Shut up.

LORELAI: [whispers] Sorry, milady.

LORELAI: I get it. I’m horrible. So why don’t you disown me and adopt Christopher, you love him.

RICHARD: Don’t be a martyr Lorelai. And don’t be naïve. Do you think I love the boy who got my daughter pregnant? I wanted to kill him! I would have too with my bare hands. But there’s a proper procedure to be followed in a situation like this.

CHRISTOPHER: Well I know you well enough to know that when you say no to coffee, especially in the morning, all is not right in Whoville.

LORELAI: Curtains?

LUKE: No.

LORELAI: Manly curtains.

LUKE: Oxymoron.

LORELAI: What did you call me?

Most iconic outfit

I actually quite like the outfit Lorelai wears to dinner at her parents. The Chinese-inspired silk skirt and long sleeve black top with red piping were actually pretty cool. I wouldn’t have worn brown boots though, almost ruined it.

Final thoughts and fun facts

In this episode, Dean asks what kind of bike Christopher has and says he has an 86 Suzuki himself. But in “Kiss and Tell” Dean told Lorelai that he didn’t have a bike. Also, in “Double Date” Dean told Rory that he and Todd worked on their bikes together. Lorelai repeats that Rory will not get on the motorcycle at which point Dean agrees, implying he was lying to her about not having a motorcycle, and she knew it.

Near the beginning when Lorelai is explaining to Sookie that Christopher is in town, she says that she hasn’t seen him since last Christmas. Last Christmas, she was in town with Luke having been told not to come by her mother until her father is sent to the hospital. There was no way that she would/could have seen Christopher and this is his first appearance.
