Re-Watch Review: Superstore S1-EP6

Episode synopsis

S1 EP6 – Secret Shopper: Amy feels competitive when Glenn publicly congratulates Jonah on his superb test results; Cloud 9 employees are on their best behaviour in anticipation of a secret shopper.

Cast

America Ferrera…Amy

Ben Feldman…Jonah

Lauren Ash…Dina

Colton Dunn…Garrett

Nico Santos…Mateo

Mark McKinney…Glenn

Best character

He’s technically only in the episode for about a minute, but Sean Gunn, known only as ‘card shopper’ has to be awarded this title. Every time I see him pop up in other shows I think he’s going to act like Kirk and he kind of did in this one.

Favourite scenes

*I do not own the rights to any videos in this post, no copyright infringement was intended. All rights go to the production studio*

Glenn thinking Jonah works for corporate is too funny. The scene where he asks Jonah if he should have a raise and then eats the really sour sweet is just too much. He’s so wholesome but in the weirdest way.

More classic Amy and Jonah ‘I don’t like you’ flirting.

I tried looking for a video of Amy and Jonah destroying the stockroom but unfortunately, there isn’t one on YouTube. It’s so fun and it’s nice to see Amy and Jonah having a good time together.

Best quotes and one liners

MATEO: I would love for them to send a secret shopper. But then again, I got a 93 on my last corporate policy test, so nothing but net.

AMY: Mateo, those scores don’t mean anything.

JONAH: I don’t know. 93 is pretty impressive. I got 100.

AMY: [scoffs] Really?

JONAH: Well, that was a hurtfully exaggerated “really.”

AMY: No, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it to sound bad. I just meant you’re not very good at your job.

JONAH: Ace. They’re calling me Ace now.

AMY: Strong words from a guy who led a flock of ducks into the store.

JOMAH: My pocket was ripped. I didn’t know I was trailing crackers.

AMY: Why are you even walking around with crackers in your pocket?

JONAHBecause they don’t have the kind I like here.

AMY: Marcus is in court today testifying against his grandmother

JONAH: You know that’s not a stress ball, right? It’s a lemon.

GLENN: Let me have my process.

DINA: Condolence cards, huh? Bummer. Who died?

CUSTOMER: Uh, a friend of mine.

DINA: Hmm. You don’t look very upset. Probably not that good a friend. Can I see a death certificate?

CUSTOMER: I-I don’t think I need a death certificate just to buy a card.

DINA: Well, well, well. Look who knows a lot about Cloud 9 store policies.

Final thoughts and fun facts

Amy’s name tag in this episode says ‘Sylvia’. Jonah is also wearing a new name tag that says ‘Ace’ which is what he’s calling himself after scoring 100 on the corporate test.

At the end of every episode, the card for the production company Spitzer Holding Company features a variety of items they specialize in. In this episode, they list Private Security, Textiles, and VHS Transfers.

Apparently, the type of forklift used in the scene where Jonah and Amy destroy the stockroom has a safety mechanism under the seat that will not allow it to turn on or be put into gear unless there is weight on the seat, like that from a human body. There would be no way the forklift could have driven off on its own without a person, or something of similar weight, in the driver’s seat.
