Episode synopsis
S1 EP16 – Control: After Jess realizes that Schmidt is unfairly doing all of the housework, she pushes him to “go on strike,” and the entire ecosystem of the loft is thrown off balance. Meanwhile, Nick scrambles when he must pay up to Winston after losing a poker game.

Best character
This is an episode mostly focused on Schmidt, so I’m of course choosing him as the best character. He has so many excellent one-liners and I love the weird arc he goes through in just 25 minutes.

SCHMIDT: I’m gonna have to run all the way home. And I have my slippiest loafers on.
JESS: Can you believe I found this on the street? Who would want to throw this away?
SCHMIDT: A blind man who suddenly recovered his sight? Get rid of it, Jess … pine has no place in this loft. It’s the wood of poor people and outhouses.
SCHMIDT: A top-of-the-line conical burr coffee grinder. You know what that means? It means it doesn’t smash up the beans like some pedestrian blade grinder. It actually grinds them, for a deeper, richer, more satisfying flavour profile!
JESS: Oh. Well, I’ve used it repeatedly to make homemade crayons. Does that show up in your flavour profile, Schmidt?
SCHMIDT: Jess, I’m not like these people, okay? I don’t have dreadlocks. I don’t own a snake.
SCHMIDT: I waded into the ocean without my aqua socks.
NICK: Remember those things that Schmidt used to make us with the peanut butter and the raisins on the celery? What were those called?
WINSTON: Ants on a log.
NICK: Ants on a log. I just got why they’re called ants on a log. Looks like ants on a log.
JESS: I went down to the beach, and I tried to talk to Schmidt, but he just ignored me, and he went back to twirling his fire baton. He’s really bad; He burned a lot of people. I feel like they should let you twirl it around a few times before they actually light it on fire.
NICK: Why are you wearing that crystal around your neck?
SCHMIDT: Nick, the crystal symbolizes energy.
NICK: All a crystal is is rock poo, Schmidt.
Final thoughts and fun facts
I actually don’t remember this episode despite seeing it at least two or three times now. There are a few moments that ring a bell but I completely forgot about it. It’s a great Schmidt episode though.
