I haven’t done one of these posts since November as I keep talking about adaptations too far in advance. What I’m going to do from now on is firstly, find adaptations I’m excited about and secondly, only talk about them if they’re definitely happening and if they’re coming up in the next couple of months.
The Summer I Turned Pretty season two – July 14th
I’m going to be saying this or something very similar exactly three times in this post, but I can’t tell you how excited I am for this. I’ve only just rewatched season one, well it was in February, but I want to watch it again before the new season comes out. This happens so rarely for me, the only show I’ve properly rewatched, without reviewing it, is Heartstopper.
Speaking of reviewing shows, I’ve reviewed the first season and by the time the second season starts, I’ll have all of the episodes posted. It has been my favourite show to review so far.
Synopsis: Belly used to count down the days until she could return to Cousins Beach, but with Conrad and Jeremiah fighting over her heart and the return of Susannah’s cancer, she’s not sure summer will ever be the same. When an unexpected visitor threatens the future of Susannah’s beloved house, Belly has to rally the gang to come together—and to decide once and for all where her heart lies.
Hearstopper season two – August 3rd
This is definitely my most anticipated release of the year. I’m absolutely bingeing the season the day it comes out and I wouldn’t be surprised if I’ve watched it multiple times before the end of the year. I’ve watched the first season five times now and I’m thinking another watch is necessary before August 3rd. You may think I’m insane for watching it so many times but it brings me so much joy and comfort.
Synopsis: Nick and Charlie navigate their new relationship; Tara and Darcy face unforeseen challenges and Tao and Elle work out if they can ever be more than just friends. With exams on the horizon, a school trip to Paris and a prom to plan, the gang has a lot to juggle as they journey through the next stages of life, love and friendship.
Red, White & Royal Blue – August 11th
Excited. Oh my god, I am so excited. I really thought this wasn’t going to happen as it was complete radio silence for so long. I’m feeling very hopeful that this is going to be great as the screenplay has been written by hte author, which I think should be the standard for adaptations. The reason why Heartstopper is so amazing is because Alice Oseman wrote the show, you really can’t go wrong.
I cannot wait to see Henry and Alex come to life, especially as Nicholas Galitzine knows how to play a ‘fruity prince’. If you’re not on Twitter you may not understand this, but trust me, it’s true.
Synopsis: Red, White & Royal Blue — both the film and the novel written by Casey McQuiston the movie is based on — follows the star-crossed, secret romance between the son of the President of the United States (Alex Claremont-Diaz, played by Taylor Zakhar Perez) and the Prince of England (Henry, played by Nicholas Galitzine). The two young, hot, high-profile young men have been engulfed in a long-running feud since they were kids — but after a silly brawl at a royal event turns into an international scandal, the two must work together to do some serious damage control in the public eye. What was first a “friendship”-slash-publicity-stunt eventually turns into one of the grandest love stories the world has ever known. However, if come to light, their secret romance could have irreversible political consequences — can love save the world after all? (Thanks Teen Vogue for the detailed synopsis!)
