To Be Watched: August 2023

August is about to be an amazing month for TV shows and films. I have a few very highly anticipated releases and I’m so excited for them.

Heartstopper season two

I can’t even tell you how excited I am for this. The Paris trip is one of my favourite parts of the graphic novels and from what I’ve seen so far, it looks amazing. I feel like I’ve spoken about season two a lot lately and I have nothing new to say other than I’m so excited I could cry.

Synopsis: Nick and Charlie navigate their new relationship; Tara and Darcy face unforeseen challenges and Tao and Elle work out if they can ever be more than just friends. With exams on the horizon, a school trip to Paris and a prom to plan, the gang has a lot to juggle as they journey through the next stages of life, love and friendship.

Red, White & Royal Blue

I’m really vibing with the chemistry between the leads in this. I wasn’t sure at first from the trailer, but I watched an interview with them and my god, they have insane chemistry. Flirting all over the place.

I already have a feeling this will become one of my comfort films because I love the book so much.

Synopsis: Red, White & Royal Blue — both the film and the novel written by Casey McQuiston the movie is based on — follows the star-crossed, secret romance between the son of the President of the United States (Alex Claremont-Diaz, played by Taylor Zakhar Perez) and the Prince of England (Henry, played by Nicholas Galitzine). The two young, hot, high-profile young men have been engulfed in a long-running feud since they were kids — but after a silly brawl at a royal event turns into an international scandal, the two must work together to do some serious damage control in the public eye. What was first a “friendship”-slash-publicity-stunt eventually turns into one of the grandest love stories the world has ever known. However, if come to light, their secret romance could have irreversible political consequences — can love save the world after all?

The Summer I Turned Pretty season two

I’ve already watched the first four episodes and I am loving the second season so far. I wouldn’t say the fun vibes are as present as in the first season but considering what happens in the second book, makes sense. I’m looking forward to the rest of the episodes.

Synopsis: Belly used to count down the days until she could return to Cousins Beach, but with Conrad and Jeremiah fighting over her heart and the return of Susannah’s cancer, she’s not sure summer will ever be the same. When an unexpected visitor threatens the future of Susannah’s beloved house, Belly has to rally the gang to come together—and to decide once and for all where her heart lies.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season four

I’m hoping to have time to get around to this, but it’s not at the top of my list of priority watches, so we shall see. There’s officially no Olivia anymore and honestly, that makes me sad. She was only in like two episodes last season and that was my least favourite, so god knows what I’ll think of this one.

Synopsis: After an epic summer at Camp Shallow Lake, the Wildcats return to East High where they will prepare a stage production of “High School Musical 3: Senior Year.
