Synopsis:

FRIENDS. RIVALS. LOVERS.

Liv’s happy with life in her thirties. She has two cats, one BFF, and no boyfriend, which is just how she likes it. Plus, she loves working at a not-for-profit software company where she can be her authentically autistic self. This is her happy ever after.

But when her beloved firm merges with a repulsive rival, Liv finds herself competing with her sort-of-ex for the top job. Sure, Finn had been Liv’s best friend at university, with his nerdy good looks and their shared love of Tolkien, but there was that one night, their song, and … well, she doesn’t like to talk about it. In fact, she hasn’t thought about him since.

Unlike Finn who is delighted to have Liv back in his life. Could this finally be his chance to rescue their friendship after all these years? But he knows it’s only a matter of time until he wins the job and Liv gets laid off. He hates everything about it, but he’s a single dad with a daughter to support, so losing isn’t an option – not even to his soulmate.

But in the close proximity of a cut-throat corporate world, Finn finds himself falling first and soon his priority becomes breaking down Liv’s barriers. As the pair struggle to keep their professional and personal lives separate, Liv starts to think maybe Finn’s suggestion of a friendship reboot isn’t such a bad idea after all… And as for that funny feeling inside… no, that’s nothing. Nothing at all…

Narrated by Emily Atack (star of Rivals) & Stuart Martin (star of Miss Scarlet and The Duke), LOVE, REBOOTED is a steamy, slow burn romance that will steal the heart of your inner-nerd. Because if we want a second chance at love, sometimes we have to ask ourselves the most obvious question: Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Review:

Love Rebooted was a very entertaining read. I’m always a little weary of books with autistic characters because I’m worried they’ll have harmful representation (I’m looking at you A-Typical on Netflix). As someone with neurodivergencies, it’s pretty important to me and Liv was a character I could relate to quite heavily.

I loved Liv a lot. She was so unapologetic about what she wanted or needed and I love that for her. We love a female character that isn’t afraid to stand up for herself, especially in the workplace to an arrogant, offensive white man.

Finn was also a pretty great character, he basically worshipped the ground Liv walked on. I loved that he could understand and relate to her so well because his daughter is also autistic. Obviously it’s different for everyone, but this understanding made their reconnection that much more special. Their shared love for Lord of the Rings was also very cute.

The romance was a real slow burn and the ‘will-they-won’t-they’ did get a little annoying by the end but there were so many obstacles in their way that it’s not the worst thing to ever happen.

I only wrote one note while listening to this book and this is it: If the accent didn’t convince me Finlay was Scottish, the casual mention of drinking Iron Bru definitely did (this is sarcasm). Multiple characters are mentioned to be drinking Iron Bru throughout the book and I found this really funny for some reason. Especially as it’s not a drink you see people with very often these days. I loved Iron Bru as a kid though.

The narration was incredible though. Even the accents, which I’ve been known to slate in the past. I love listening to audiobooks that are narrated by actors I know. Hiring actual actors to narrate audiobooks is never a bad idea.

If you have an Audible plus subscription, Love Rebooted is a fun listen to check out. With excellent narration and relatable characters, it’s something all can enjoy.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
