Review:

I’ve had Snow Day in my Audible library for over a year and for some reason I didn’t listen to it last year in preparation of my ‘best festive audiobooks’ post. This book is only 1 hour and 11 minutes long, so I don’t know why I put off listening to it.

Anyway, this was very entertaining. I love a full cast audiobook and this one also has sound effects and background noise. It felt like I was listening to a Hallmark Christmas movie and I love that.

The voice acting was great but the fact that this was dramatised it did mean you didn’t get to know the thoughts and feelings of the characters. This meant I wasn’t really sold on the romance. The vibes of friendship were definitely there but I didn’t really get a spark of romantic chemistry between Amy and Martjin. That’s also due to the short length of Snow Day. It’s hard to build a believable romance in just one hour.

The overall feeling of Snow Day is very calm and comforting. Even though the stakes aren’t particularly low, there isn’t really a sense of urgency or drama. It’s the type of book you can put on in the background while you get over things done. The film like feeling of the narration makes it super easy to stay focused on what’s going on.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
