I’m not entirely sure why this happened in March, but most of the books I bought were repurchases of favourites but in a different format. I bought a couple of books that I’d previously read ARCs of, A Tempest of Tea for example, and I got a physical box set of four of Ali Hazelwood’s books – two of which I’d already read, and I read another one the day after buying the set. I’m obsessed with Ali Hazelwood’s books.
This may surprise you all after I talked about not enjoying what I’d read of The Deal by Elle Kennedy so far in a post earlier this month, but I bought a special edition box set of the series with the prettiest sprayed edges. Big love to the Works for having box sets of books for less than half the price of the original books.
I bought a couple of these books way earlier in the month, so I have photos of them already. I somehow managed to get my camera to work so I really took advantage of that opportunity and got photos for almost every book I own. So enjoy a rare haul post with photos!
The Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy by Brigitte Knightley
I’ll be honest and say the cover and title are what attracted me to this book – I have a feeling I won’t be alone on this one. Whoever came up with the concept for this cover and the title knows exactly how to get those of us who love a slow burn, enemies to lovers story with a silver-haired male, interested. I’d be lying if I said the cover isn’t what sold this book to me.
Synopsis: A slow burn, enemies-to-lovers romance featuring a scholarly healer and a gentleman assassin, set in an exquisite fantasy world.
Osric Mordaunt, member of the Fyren Order of assassins, finds himself in dire need of an expert healer. As fate would have it, that very healer is Aurienne Fairhrim, a member of his enemy Order, the Haelen.
Aurienne is desperate for funding to heal the sick, so desperate that when Osric breaks into her office to offer her a bribe for her healing services, she must accept. Even if she loathes him.
A forced collaboration ensues: the brilliant Woman in STEM is coerced into working with the PhD in Murders – much to Aurienne’s disgust. Despite being enemies thrown together, as Osric and Aurienne work together to solve not only his illness, but the mysterious reoccurrence of a deadly Pox, they find themselves ardently denying their attraction which seems to only fuel the heat between them.
And Now, Back to You by B.K. Borison
This one was quite the impulse buy. I’ve only read one book by B.K. Borison but I now own several, including both books in this series of standalones. I’ve heard great things about book one, and I really do want to check these out at some point, but they’re pretty long for contemporary romances. Does anyone else agree that almost 500 pages is way too long for romance books or is it just me? I’m not a fan of any book being that long really. I hate feeling like it’s taking me forever to read one book.
Anyway, I love the concept of these books. Plus this one is about a journalist, which is great for me as I have a degree in journalism, so will bring back some memories for sure.
Synopsis: Two competing meteorologists are forced to find common ground in this opposites attract, When Harry Met Sally inspired romance, from New York Times bestselling author B.K. Borison.
Jackson Clark and Delilah Stewart have had their fair share of run-ins over the years, often ending in disaster. While Jackson thrives on routine and organization from the comfort of his radio booth, Delilah loves the spontaneity and adventure out in the field. When they’re partnered against their will to cover the snowstorm of the century, they find themselves scrambling to figure out how to work together.
Eager to be taken seriously as a journalist, Delilah offers Jackson a deal. If he can help her ace this assignment, she’ll help him rediscover his long-lost fun side. With an undiscovered chemistry burning beneath their clashes, the unlikely partnership quickly tumbles into an easy and surprising friendship.
But when other feelings start to enter the equation, can Jackson and Delilah withstand the storm? Or does what happens in the mountains, stay in the mountains?
Better in Black by Cassandra Clare
This was another purchase on the day I got the Ali Hazelwood and Elle Kennedy sets. I went into Waterstones in hunt of a copy of Wisteria by Adalyn Grace (I can’t find it anywhere) and spotted this. I had no idea it had even been published physically in the UK yet, so you can probably imagine how excited I got. My excitement grew even further when I remembered I have a £10 off voucher through the stamp collection system, so this book cost only £6.99 – that’s cheaper than the Ebook which is currently on sale!
Now, I’m not the biggest fan of short stories, but I’ll make an exception for some of my favourite shadowhunter couples. I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to spend time with Emma and Julian again. Also, Anna and Ari?! Sign me right up.
Synopsis: Ten couples. United by love. Divided by danger.
Jace and Clary, seeking out an exiled Shadowhunter and learning that love can save the world—or destroy it. Will and Tessa, honeymooning in Paris when a séance sends them down an unexpected path. Simon and Izzy, observing increased demonic activity around New York, on a hilarious urban romp.
These are just a few of the beloved couples whose romantic escapades will have you on the edge of your seat across time and storylines from Cassandra Clare’s expansive Shadowhunters series. Don’t miss a chance to reunite with:
• Anna and Ari
• Emma and Julian
• Kieran, Mark, and Cristina
• James and Cordelia
• Thomas and Alastair
• Sebastian and the Seelie Queen
• Jocelyn and Luke
A love letter to every fan of the Shadowhunter Chronicles, this riveting story collection also includes a sneak peek at The Wicked Powers, the majestic trilogy that will be the grand finale of the entire series!
