Synopsis:

A Mysterious Death. A Forbidden Romance. A Reign at its End.

When her third daughter mysteriously dies, Queen Moira will do whatever it takes to discover the truth and keep her youngest safe. She’s lost three children in the span of a year and will not lose another.

Her husband, the dragon king of the fae, had long left her chambers and found solace in his wicked mistresses who eased his erratic fears. He would not help Moira in this quest, and so she turned to the only fae she trusted: Tallis.

Tallis, the head of the royal guard and her dear friend, would do anything to protect his queen and the royal line, but as the two fae search around the castle, they discover the truth behind the murders, and bringing the culprit to justice will tear the kingdom apart.

With each passing day, Moira is forced to choose who she is loyal to: the crown or her heart, because she can no longer honour both.

Review:

Bound by Treason was a random Kindle Unlimited pick up and it was pretty decent. It’s less than 150 pages long so it’s a perfect gap filler or quick read to bulk up your reading goal.

Surprisingly in these less than 150 pages, there was a lot going on. There’s a good amount of world-building and you learn a lot about the characters, but this is only a novella so there isn’t a ton of depth.

This is actually a great book to read if you find yourself in a fantasy slump, which is what happened to me. It’s super short, not too heavy on the world-building and has a good amount of romance. I’ve been a little scared of large fantasy books lately as I just can’t get into them, but I do think this short novella will help,

I don’t think there was enough time to make the romance believable, it was definitely rushed, but you do root for them. Quite a lot of the Goodreads reviews are angry about the amount of cheating in this book, but I feel like it’s different when it’s fae, especially when the queen’s husband has been cheating on her for a long time and basically said he doesn’t love her anymore. It’s fiction, it doesn’t bother me.

Bound by Treason is a decent romantasy (I’ve just discovered this word) that’s perfect for anyone looking for a quick read.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
