Critical Role Review: Campaign 4 Update

It’s only been 14 episodes but I’ve come to the decision that I will no longer be posting these “reviews”. I wanted to make this series work but it’s become increasingly harder to get these posts written each week. Not only do I have zero motivation to sit down and watch the episodes, but I also think these posts are stopping me from wanting to watch campaign 4. I’m enjoying the story so far, but it hasnโ€™t quite pulled me in yet. Iโ€™m still working my way through campaign 2 again and switching between the campaigns is making me a little sad. I know itโ€™s still early days but the magic of Critical Role feels missing from campaign 4 so far. There are too many players and I really miss Matt DMโ€™ing. It was unlikely the format would stay the same forever but Iโ€™m not sure how much I like having three different tables. Itโ€™s giving the story a real disconnect for me. Am I the only one that feels like this?

Anyway, watching the new episode each week and devoting my full attention to it is a lot. For previous campaigns I would get other stuff done while watching/listening to the episodes, but I canโ€™t do that when Iโ€™m writing a review. Spending four hours writing one blog post isn’t economical โ€“ especially when this is a hobby. I have a full time job and this blog is already like a second one with my usual content, nevermind needing to sit down to watch four hours of content each week for just one post. I should have predicted Iโ€™d feel this way after two years of reviewing films and TV shows, but I really thought my love for Critical Role would make these posts more fun than work. Sadly, thatโ€™s not the case.

We had a good run (not really), and I was genuinely excited to be posting Critical Role content, but it’s coming at the detriment of me not enjoying the show any more, which isn’t worth it. I’ll still talk about campaign 4 in my monthly wrap up posts, so if you are interested you can check those out in the future. I donโ€™t know if Iโ€™ll be keeping completely up to date with the show each week though. I still havenโ€™t watched episode 15 and I have no plans to at the moment. Iโ€™d quite like to finish campaign 2 and all of its related shows before I continue.
