Monthly Wrap Up: March 2025

Advertisements

March was pretty rough. I only finished seven books and I honestly didn’t have a great time. Thankfully, I’m still way ahead on my reading challenge but I’ve massively fallen behind on blog posts and the pressure of posting every day is getting to me for the first time in over two and a half years. I do love this though and never want to stop.

One Of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus

Read: 1/3/25 – 2/3/25

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I’d highly recommend the audiobook version of One Of Us Is Lying, the cast did a great job. You can also definitely read this if you’ve already watched the show. That’s what I did and there’s actually enough difference in the content to still make this an interesting read.

Audiobook Review: One Of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus

Synopsis: On Thursday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.

Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.

Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.

Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.

Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.

And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High’s notorious gossip app.

Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention, Simon’s dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn’t an accident. On Thursday, he died. But on Friday, he’d planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they just the perfect patsies for a killer who’s still on the loose? Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.

An Heir of Frost by Elise Kova

Read: 23/2/25 – 6/3/25

Rating: 4 out of 5.

As you can see from the dates read, this took me a very long time to get through. Which really annoyed me because I adore Elise Kova’s books and this became one of my lowest rated so far. To be fair, part of why it took me so long to get through was because I did find some parts of it a little boring. But I love these characters, I just need the stupid love triangle to go away.

Synopsis: The fate of five kingdoms teeters on the knife’s edge, and Eira’s destiny is in the icy grasp of the Pirate Queen.

After a narrow escape from the brutal end of the Tournament of Five Kingdoms, Eira and her friends find themselves prisoners of the legendary Pirate Queen Adela. To most, death follows shortly after the pirate queen’s icy stare. But for Eira, those all too familiar eyes hold long-sought truths.

As she and her friends dive deeper into the pirates’ world, their magic is pushed to the brink. Morals are tested. Old passions reignite, and fresh desires spark. But love can be the deadliest vulnerability.

Amidst high-seas action, close-call escapes, and unraveling the twisted political machinations that happen in the shadows of their world, a haunting question looms larger and larger:

How much are they prepared to sacrifice for what they believe in?

Dear Sofia by Danielle Keil

Read: 7/3/25 – 8/3/25

Rating: 4 out of 5.

These books are so sweet and they’re such easy reading. This was definitely one of my favourites so far. I’d highly recommend checking out this ‘series’ if you want nice, simple and clean romances that are sure to make you smile.

Synopsis: Everyone at Ryder High knows what it means to have a teal envelope taped to their locker on the first of the month.

Sofia Castillo didn’t get that. But she did get a giant ice cream sandwich delivered to her house with her envelope.

Things take a turn when her family goes on vacation the day after her envelope arrives. It throws a wrench in her secret admirer’s plan, and he has to change tactics and deliver clues via text instead.

Sofia knows it’s someone close to her, but who? Texts come at all times—even when she’s in the same place as her admirer. Without too many specific clues, Sofia decides to just enjoy the ride and the conversation.

Will Sofia be able to coax some clues out of her admirer?

Or will he reveal himself when things take a sudden turn?

A Duel With The Vampire Lord [Dramatised Adaptation] by Elise Kova

Read: 11/3/25 – 13/3/25

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Here’s something I don’t recommend: listening to the dramatised version of a book you’ve never read before. It’s fun and immersive, but so much content is missed out. I like knowing the small movements the characters make and what they’re feeling. All of that got cut from this.

Synopsis: On the night of the blood moon, the Vampire Lord must die.

Floriane’s position as the forge maiden of Hunter’s Hamlet is one of reverence, for it is her skill that arms and protects the vampire hunters. She knows her place and is a faithful servant to the Master Hunter and her community… until the night of the blood moon. Until her brother is dying at the hands of the Vampire Lord Ruvan.

Wanting to defend her home at all costs, Floriane fights the vampire lord, ready to give her life if it means taking his. But Ruvan doesn’t want to take her life… he wants her.

Kidnapped and brought to the vampire castle, Floriane is now blood sworn to the vampire lord. She is bound in mind and body to her worst enemy. But Ruvan isn’t the fiend she thought he was. She learns the truth of the vampires: They are not mindless monsters, but a proud people, twisted and tortured by an ancient curse.

Ruvan believes that Floriane might be the key to ending his people’s suffering. All Floriane wants is to defend her home. Loyalties are tested and the lines between truth and lie, hate and passion, are blurred.

When her dagger is at his chest, will she be able to take the heart of the man who has claimed hers?

The Modern Girl’s Guide to Magic by Linsey Hall

Read: 9/3/25 – 18/3/25

Rating: 2 out of 5.

Guys, my reading month was already bad and then I got to this and it got even worse. If a book that is barely more than 300 pages long takes me more than a week to finish I’m fuming. What made this even worse was nothing really happened. But more on that when my full review is posted later this month.

Synopsis: So here’s the deal—I’m a magical disaster. A witch from a family of witches, and the only one whose magic blows up in her face. Which is why I came up with my rules…

1. Never get involved with magic

2. If you must get involved, do not enter a competition to win the biggest magical fortune in England

3. And definitely don’t fall for Callan Hawthorne, the sexy billionaire mage who you’ve hated for years

So how the heck do I end up in a situation that promises to break all those rules? It’s the only way to save Seaside Spells, my family’s magical potion shop.

But it’s cool. When I go back home to Charming Cove—a village of ancient pubs and foul-mouthed familiars—I will totally ignore Witch Weekly’s Sexiest Man of the Year. I’ll win the competition, and if I’m lucky, I won’t turn myself into a toad in the process.

This’ll be fine. It’ll all be fine.

Riiiight.

The Revelry by Katherine Webber

Read: 20/3/25 – 22/3/25

Rating: 2 out of 5.

Yet another disappointing read in what turned out to be a pretty bad month. This had a lot of potential but it never really went anywhere.

Synopsis: A story of best friends, bad luck and the consequences of breaking the rules in a town built on secrets and superstitions.

Growing up in Ember Grove, Bitsy Clark knows better than to break the rules around the Revelry, the mysterious end-of-year party in the woods. So when her best friend, Amy, persuades her to sneak in, Bitsy is full of misgivings.

Misgivings that she should have listened to, because it’s after the Revelry that Bitsy’s luck turns and her life starts to unravel. For Amy, it’s the opposite, as if she’s been blessed with good fortune.

Soon Bitsy is convinced that the Revelry has tied the two friends together in a curse that only she can break….

The Wrong Costar by Alexandra Moody

Read: 18/3/25 – 31/3/25

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Again another book that took way too long to finish and this negatively impacted my rating. I loved the premise and the characters were some of Alexandra Moody’s most complex so far.

Synopsis: An actor who shares equal importance in a play with another. Unless you’re Liam Black.

Teagan has one goal in to get out of the small town she grew up in and never look back. Acting is her passion, and she’s counting on her skills on stage to grant her a one-way ticket out of there. When she learns a talent scout will be attending their high school drama production, she knows she’s finally got a chance at making her dreams come true.

What she wasn’t counting on was Hollywood heartthrob and notorious bad-boy Liam Black gate crashing the show. Forced to join Teagan’s school to prepare for his next movie, everyone seems to be buzzing about his arrival — but for Teagan it spells disaster.

Liam’s got a bad reputation. He doesn’t take their play seriously. And, worst of all, he and Teagan can’t stand each other. Can they conjure up some chemistry on stage, or will this Hollywood hottie be too much for Teagan to handle?
