Layers of Fear – Kastaclysm
Game synopsis: “Live through indescribable terrors as artists obsessed with their crafts beyond reason and sanity. Layers of Fears is a psychedelic horror chronicle focused on tense exploration and immersive storytelling with hidden meanings.”
I’ve talked about the first Layers of Fear game before, but that was the original. This is the reimagined version that has new gameplay elements and let me just say, it’s not better. It feels like all of the atmosphere was sucked out of the game and the fact that you could change the outcome of the painter’s story ruined it. I liked how dark and twisted it was and the fact that you couldn’t change what happens made it such a great story.
At the time, this didn’t affect my enjoyment of the series, especially as Maggie is an absolute delight. She’s just so cute. I love how she says ‘oi’ at things that scare her and that ‘y’all’ is legitimately part of her vocabulary. She’s very quickly become a favourite of mine and this was only my second playthrough of hers.
The whole playthrough is very well thought out and I love how Maggie thinks through what is happening and comes up with her own theories about what is happening. That’s how you know they are enjoying what they are playing and that always makes a playthrough better.
I wouldn’t say this is a funny playthrough like the Jacksepticeye one I’ve talked about, but this is the entirety of both games, including the DLC stories. It’s a very long and very detailed playthrough, so I wouldn’t say it’s one you’d put on in the background.
Apologies that this is quite a short post, I watched this playthrough quote a long time ago and either accidentally deleted my notes, or didn’t take any which is a rookie mistake I will (hopefully) not make again in the future.
