*I was sent a copy of The Christmas Book Club in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to HQ and Sarah Morgan for my copy of the book*
Synopsis:
A long-lasting friendship
Every year, Erica, Claudia, and Anna reunite for their book club holiday. They’re bonded by years of friendship and a deep love of books, but there is still so much they keep from each other…
A perfect Christmas escape
At the cosy Maple Sugar Inn, Hattie specialises in making her guests’ dreams come true, but this Christmas all she wants is to survive the festive season. Between running the inn and being a single mother, Hattie is close to breaking point.
The start of a brand-new story…?
Over the course of an eventful week, Hattie sees that the friends are each carrying around unspoken truths, but nothing prepares her for how deeply her story will become entwined in theirs. Will this Christmas be the end of the book club’s story or the start of a whole new chapter?
Review:
For me, Christmas would not be complete without a Sarah Morgan book. I’ve read one of her books every year I’ve done my festive book reviews and they are always some of my favourites. The Christmas Book Club has 100% been my absolute favourite so far, I could not put this book down.
Sarah Morgan has always been excellent at writing realistic family/friend relationships and the ones in The Christmas Book Club are no exception. It says a lot about the writing when I find the friendships more heartwarming than the actual romance. Don’t get me wrong, the romance was also very cute, but there’s something about building familial bonds in festive books that I just love.
I’m not always a fan of books with more than two POVs, however, it was done well here. Each character had something to bring to the story and they meshed together very well. You could really tell that Erica, Claudia and Anna had been friends for a long time and it was nice to see Hattie slot into their lives seamlessly.
The Christmas Book Club has two of my favourite festive ‘tropes’: small town and cosy inn. I don’t know if these are technically tropes, but you know what I mean. Books set in small towns are always a hit with me and when it involves Christmas, I am in literary heaven. I adore the sense of community in small towns and the group of people at the Maple Sugar Inn, which Hattie owns, were so wholesome. There was definitely a sprinkling of found family in this story and it was very heartwarming.
If you are looking for a fun festive read that centres on friendship and family with a sprinkling of romance, you need to read The Christmas Book Club. It has been my favourite festive read of the year so far and it’s going to take something very special to top it.
