Fallout
I think a lot of people will agree with me when I say this is one of the best game adaptations ever made. More often than not game adaptations miss the mark massively but Fallout is genuinely great – even for people who know nothing about the games. I’m not a huge fan of them but I do love this TV show.
It’s so interesting to see how they’ve adapted an open world game that has a customisable main character. The three different ‘main characters’ you follow each represent different play styles, which is so fun to watch. I’m not as interested in the Brotherhood of Steel story line right now but I do think they’re building an interesting character arc for Maximus.
I also love anything Ella Purnell is in. I think she’s an incredible actress and the idea of her going from playing Jackie in Yellowjackets, to Rhiannon in Sweetpea, to Lucy in Fallout is pretty funny. They couldn’t be more different characters.
Both seasons of the show have been really entertaining so far. I think season one is my favourite but I do tend to love the first season of a show the most as you get to meet the characters and learn about a new world/place.
Apparently a lot of the settings and objects are almost one to one with the games. I haven’t played them myself but I have seen a lot of content on them, so I wouldn’t pick up on anything like this other than the obvious ones like Nuka Cola. But that’s pretty cool. I love it when they stay true to the source material, even for tiny details.
Synopsis: Years after a nuclear apocalypse devastates America, a violent raid by bandits on an underground fallout shelter forces one of its residents to set out into a barren wasteland filled with radiation, mutated monsters, and a lawless society of those who remained on the surface.
The Hunger Games
These books and films were my entire personality when I was 12. If you’d asked anyone back in school what I was known for it would have been being obsessed with The Hunger Games. I wore a mockingjay pin on my school uniform and Josh Hutcherson was most likely my phone wallpaper.
Now I do think the film adaptations miss out on some great parts of the books, but I love them all the same. I’ve recently had to repurchase the first film as my original copy has worn out – that’s how many times I’ve watched these films.
Personally, I think the cast for these films is absolutely perfect – they literally couldn’t have picked better people. I remember people questioning Sam Claflin as Finnick but that soon changed when the film came out. Catching Fire is the best book and film in the series for a reason: Finnick Odair. Also, the quarter quell is such a fun games. If you can call a fight to the death fun.
I’d be surprised if any of you haven’t seen these films yet but I highly recommend you check them out if you haven’t. No one is doing dystopia like this anymore, probably because real life is pretty dystopic right now.
Synopsis: In a dystopian future, the totalitarian nation of Panem is divided into 12 districts and the Capitol. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal retribution for a past rebellion, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem. The 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors while the citizens of Panem are required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss’ young sister, Prim, is selected as District 12’s female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, are pitted against bigger, stronger representatives, some of whom have trained for this their whole lives.
