I think I’m going to officially retire this post type…again. I’ve recently realised that I either don’t watch anything I say I will or I’m just repeating myself from my ‘what I watched’ posts. It makes more sense to keep those as I can write mini reviews for everything I’ve watched. Which is way less daunting than promising to watch certain things every month.
The two shows I’ve mentioned in this post are ones I will actually be watching as I’m pretty much always watching Critical Role. I’m actually thinking about doing posts like my campaign 4 reviews, but for shorter series and one shots that I haven’t managed to get around to yet (Candela Obscura, EXU, Thresher etc.). I know, it’s a little crazy that I haven’t watched any Candela yet, it’s right up my street. I also only got a quarter of the way through the second episode of Age of Umbra, so I may revisit that at some point. These ‘reviews’ would be posted randomly and basically just as and when I get around to watching the episodes. I’ve already committed myself to reviewing the current campaign every week.
Critical Role: Campaign 4
What do we all think of campaign 4 so far? Now that we’re really getting into it, I’m enjoying it. The last few episodes with the soldiers table have been great. I don’t do well with a lot of lore and world building being thrown at me for hours on end, so while I did enjoy the overture, I’m glad we’re getting into regular game play.
If you haven’t seen it yet, there’s a new section on Young Creative Press purely for Critical Role content. I’d been toying with the idea for years but I wasn’t sure if anyone would be interested. Turns out they are, which is nice.
I don’t think we’ll be getting many episodes of campaign 4 during December, but honestly, I’m looking forward to the little break they take at the end of the year. I’m excited to see what absolute madness Brennan cooks up for the end of year cliffhanger.
Hero to many. Enemy to some. When Thjazi Fang is marked for execution, various figures from across his remarkable life unite to uncover the truth behind his grim fate. In a land still suffering from the fallout of dead gods and living in the shadow of a tumultuous rebellion, these disparate people will come together across the fractured world of Aramán and connect in ways they never imagined.
As hope and victory fade, a question hangs over Aramán. Without the Gods, what great deeds now fall to us? And who, or what, shall grab their crown from themselves?
With a west-marches style Dungeons & Dragons campaign, you’ll get to explore this vast and wondrous world through the perspectives of three distinct rotating tables: the valiant Soldiers, the vigorous Seekers, and the veiled Schemers. As their fates intertwine, this allows us to delve deeper into Aramán – a world of wonder with sorcery stemming from the graveyard of the gods.
Critical Role: Campaign 2
I was going to talk about the animated show in this post but I’d rather save it for the wrap up. So, instead I’m talking about the original campaign. At the time of writing this post (like four days before it’s published) I’m on episode 102 and I’m interested to see how far I can get before the end of the year. I’m not sure if I’ll finish the campaign as I still have just under 150 hours to go, but I do often have it on in the background.
I do have to be careful when I watch it though as my boyfriend has decided to watch the animated show with me, but he hasn’t seen the campaign so I’m trying to avoid him hearing any spoilers.
I’m so glad the end of campaign three gave me the itch to have the Nein back in my life. I love them so much. There’s really something special about these characters. They’re definitely my favourite group but I do love Bells Hells a lot also.
Synopsis: Set in the magical world of Exandria, on the continent of Wildemount, Critical Role’s Mighty Nein campaign is the story of a group of motley and chaotic adventurers who find themselves caught in the middle of a war between two nations.
