I’m switching things up this month and doing my first to be watched post in quite some time. April was a bit of a weird month for me, I was sick, spent a lot of time camping and just generally busy to the point that I can’t remember a single thing I watched. However, I know May has some new releases I’m definitely going to watch.
Off Campus
If you read my upcoming adaptations post last month, you may be surprised to hear that I’m really excited for this show. I talked about how I was 20% into the first book and wasn’t enjoying it much so far, that quickly changed once I got a little further in. I loved book one (my review will be posted later this month) and I can’t wait for season one of the show.
The only thing that worries me about this show right now is that a pretty huge part of Hannah’s back story, that will be potentially triggering for a lot of people, isn’t mentioned or alluded to in the trailer. I hope they aren’t going to exclude it as it’s such a big part of her character and why she reacts the way she does to certain situations. I also hope they are extremely sensitive about it. I can’t lie, the way it was mentioned in the book jarred me as it was so matter of fact and out of nowhere. So fingers crossed it’s given the sensitivity it deserves.
This will likely be a weekend binge, assuming they’ll drop the entire season in one go – which I really hope they do. I hate waiting for weekly episodes as I legitimately forget about them in the days between.
Synopsis: A college-set romantic drama chronicling the unexpected love story between a music student and the university’s star hockey player, exploring themes of love and the complexities of adulthood through deep friendships and enduring bonds.
One Piece (live action)
I started season one a while ago but have struggled to get through it so far. I really need to sit down and dedicate time to this show so I can give it a fair chance. One thing I really love is how stylised it is. They’ve translated the style of the anime/manga so well, which is no easy feat.
I think part of the reason why I’m struggling to connect with this show so far is because I know next to nothing about One Piece, so I do need to concentrate while watching. I keep putting this on pretty late so my focus is out the window.
What’s really making me want to love this show is the cast. I keep getting clips of them in interviews pop up in my feed and they’re so funny.
Synopsis: An alternate version of Earth, and one that is currently in the midst of the ‘Golden Age of Pirates’. Ruthless cut-throat pirates rule the seas, and only the strongest have the chance to lay claim to the mythical treasure known as ‘One Piece’ that was left behind by the greatest pirate of them all Gold Roger. Years after the death of Gold Roger, a young boy by the name of Monkey D. Luffy has dreams of raising his own crew, finding One Piece, and declaring himself as Pirate King. After eating a devil fruit that grants Luffy the power to make his body like rubber, it gives him enormous strength and agility. When Luffy finally comes of age, he sets sail from Foosha Village in East Blue and sets upon his grand adventure to become the next Pirate King.
