I personally haven’t bought many books through the October Kindle deals this month, but that’s because I already own most of the books I’d be interested in. There are so many great deals this month, almost too many to choose from for this post – I’ve selected my top four.
Note to reader: I’m including links to all formats as I know a lot of people, like me, will buy a book in multiple formats.
Tusk Love by Thea Guanzon
There’s a part of me that still can’t quite believe this book really exists. Any Critical Role fans out there that somehow don’t know about this book, this one is for you – especially the romantasy lovers. You also don’t need to be a Critical Role fan to enjoy this book, it is fun to notice the campaign Easter eggs within the story though.
I actually received an ARC of this, but I’ve since bought a copy as it’s just 99p right now just like all of the other books in this post. Getting any book for just 99p is a bargain, but one related to Critical Role even more so.
I adored this book. I gave it a perfect five star rating and it left me wanting to check out more of Thea Guanzon’s books.

Synopsis: As the daughter of an ambitious merchant, Guinevere’s path has been marry into a noble house of the Dwendalian Empire, raise her family’s station, and live quietly as a lordling’s obedient wife. But Guinevere longs for a life unbounded by expectations, for freedom and passion and adventure.
Those distant dreams become a sudden reality when her caravan is beset by bandits, leaving her guards slain and Guinevere stranded alone on the dangerous Amber Road. Her only chance of survival is to travel alongside Oskar, the aloof half-orc who saved her during the attack.
Unlike Guinevere, Oskar’s path is not so set in stone. With his mother dead and his apprenticeship abandoned, all that’s left is a long, lonely walk to a land he’s never seen to find family he’s never met. The last thing he needs is a spoiled waif like Guinevere slowing him down—even if the spark between them sizzles with promise.
Despite his cold exterior, Oskar is brave and thoughtful and unlike anyone Guinevere has ever met. And while Guinevere may be sheltered, she brings out a softness in him that he has never dared to feel before. As the flames of their passion grow, they realize that soon they’ll need to choose between their expected destinations or their blossoming romance.
Caraval by Stephanie Garber
Caraval is genuinely one of the most magical books I have ever read. I don’t think I’ve ever found myself so immersed in a world as when I read this. I’d love to re-read the series at some point as I read the first two books way before I started posting reviews and it would be interesting to see how differently I view the book when I’m thinking about what I’ll say in my review.
Anyway, I couldn’t recommend Caraval enough. It’s such a great book and the fact that you can get it for just 99p is insane.

Synopsis: Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful and cruel father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.
But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to attend. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.
Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, and her sister disappears forever.
Grim Tidings by B.K. Borison
This is the only book in this post that I haven’t actually read yet, however, I did really enjoy book one. Plus, I used the October deals to buy this book for 99p. I’d love to say it will be a recent read, as let’s be honest, it looks like the perfect autumn/fall read, but we all know it will be ages before I pick this up.
Don’t be put off by the fact this says it’s the second book in this series, it can definitely be read as a standalone novel. Book one had a definitive ending, I assume they’re just set in the same universe.

Synopsis: Darcy Moore is tired of death. Which would be fine and good … if she wasn’t a Grim Reaper. Determined to outrun her designation as the villain, Darcy decides she won’t be dragging her next assignment to the underworld. She’ll be saving him instead.
Unfortunately for Darcy, there’s a complication in her plan. Guardian Angel Gabriel Aetos doesn’t tolerate threats to his little corner of the world, and a Grim Reaper showing up at his bar is as deadly as it gets. But when he realizes Darcy is not as she seems, Gabriel must decide if he can trust his growing feelings or hold on to his long-standing grudge.
But magic doesn’t come without consequences. And the Department of Hauntings & Spirits will eventually come calling for their missing Reaper.
King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo
It’s not very often a Leigh Bardugo book goes on sale for 99p so I definitely wouldn’t pass up this opportunity if I were you.
This is book one of a sequel duology to Shadow and Bone, but I do think it would hold up on its own if you haven’t read the original series. I read this quite a while ago now, but Nikolai was a saving grace of the Shadow and Bone series for me. He’s the only reason why I pushed through Siege and Storm.
