My Favourite Authors #3: Kalynn Bayron

It seems a little ridiculous to be naming an author one of my favourites when I have only read two of their books. However, I seriously enjoyed both of Kalynn Bayron’s books I have read so far and I just know I’m going to love whatever she releases in the future. Cinderella Is Dead was my first read of 2021 and I absolutely devoured it. I’m such a huge fan of retellings and Kalynn’s really hit the spot.

Both books I have read of hers so far have been loose retellings and if you’ve been reading Young Creative Press for a while then you know just how much I love a retelling. My favourite thing about her retellings is that they are so loosely based that they are completely original, but they still hold the essence of the original story.

As I said before Cinderella Is Dead was my first read of the year and it really reignited my love for fantasy after reading so many festive romances during December. I adored the world that it was set in and honestly the world-building was incredible. I really want another book set in this world, even if it isn’t a continuation of Cinderella Is Dead

Although I would love to read more of Sophia and Constance’s adventure. Particularly from the viewpoint of Constance, who was based on Merida from Brave. I loved both characters a lot and Kalynn is so good at creating amazingly complex female characters.

I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of Kalynn’s latest book, This Poison Heart, back in June and when I say I was excited about it. I really, really was. I didn’t know much about the story it was based on beforehand, I thought it was going to be a Snow White story, but that wasn’t the case.

I’m not sure if the release date of the next instalment has been announced yet, but oh my am I excited for it. Briseis was such a cool character and I really can’t wait to see her powers develop further and also find out what happens after the explosive ending of This Poison Heart.

If I ever want to read a book with incredible characters and even more incredible storylines then I know I don’t need to look any further than my own bookcase/library where I know Kalynn’s books sit.

I highly recommend both Cinderella Is Dead and This Poison Heart if you haven’t read them yet.
