The Best Of: Comfort Films and TV Shows #3

I’ve decided that today’s post will be films only as I want to spread the shows out a little. I’m yet to sit down and properly plan out upcoming posts. I will do this before the next post, I promise!

The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004)

Another classic from my childhood that I have seen hundreds of times. Not sure if it’s controversial to like the second film more than the first, but come on Chris Pine is in this one! The enemies-to-lovers trope is immaculately done here and honestly, the entire film is just *chef’s kiss*

I get a real sense of escapism with this film and the idea of being told you are actually a princess and then a year later you find out you’re going to be queen is pretty incredible. Like most young girls at that time the idea of being a princess was magical and finally getting to see Genovia after hearing about it in the first film was incredible.

I am very, very tempted to watch this film at some point this week as I’m in real need of a pick me up and what better way to do that than watch one of your comfort films?

Synopsis: Mia (Anne Hathaway), still coming to terms with her life as a princess, graduates from Princeton. She returns to Genovia, and her best friend, Lilly (Heather Matarazzo), goes with her. When they arrive, Mia’s grandmother (Julie Andrews) informs her that Mia cannot become queen unless she is married within 30 days. Nicholas Devereaux (Chris Pine) is one of her top suitors, though he is more interested in the crown than Mia. But when Nicholas realizes he loves Mia, he decides not to pursue her.

Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging (2008)

I used to be obsessed with this. So much so that I remember watching it when I was like 13 and crying because I wanted a boyfriend. That’s probably really embarrassing to admit but I’m fine with that.

If you didn’t fancy Aaron Taylor Johnson back when this came out, you clearly never saw this film. He was everyone’s dream boy back then and honestly he probably still is now.

Now that I live in Brighton I love this film even more as some of it was filmed in Brighton but mostly in Eastbourne. Which for anyone who doesn’t live in the UK is right next to Brighton.

Synopsis: Based on the books by Louise Rennison, this tale follows 14-year-old Georgia Nicholson as she attempts to woo Robbie, one half of a pair of fraternal twins. Prone to getting herself into embarrassing situations and worried about her parent’s marriage, Georgia discovers that being a teen can be a pain in the neck.
