Best character

I love Luke so much, he’s always loved Rory like a daughter and been protective of her, but when he finds out that Dean broke up with her. It’s a whole new level. I love how angry he gets about it. How Lorelai didn’t realise sooner how good of a man he is, I don’t know.

Best supporting character

Paris is brilliant in this episode, I love how she’s counting down the minutes until she’s allowed to leave the party. That is highly relatable.

Favourite scene

The best thing Luke does in this episode is not allowing Dean into his diner and then basically fighting him in the street. It’s so funny.

Best quotes and one liners

RORY: The first time Dean came over, he picked it up.

LORELAI: Well that’s not the colonel’s fault. He was sitting there minding his own business and a guy comes in and picks him up, what’s a stuffed bird to do?

LORELAI: Rory, my heart. It is Saturday, the day of rest.

RORY: Sunday’s the day of rest.

LORELAI: No, Saturday is the day of pre-rest.

RORY: Pre-rest?

LORELAI: Yeah, so that way when you actually get to Sunday you’re rested enough to enjoy your rest.

RORY: That makes absolutely no sense.

LORELAI: That’s because it’s 6:00 on Saturday morning.

BABETTE: I can tell her about all the horrible men I’ve known in my day.

LORELAI: Oh that’d be great.

BABETTE: Really truly awful men. I was pushed out of a moving car once.

LORELAI: Now that’s a peppy little anecdote.

LORELAI: You’re going to a Chilton party?

RORY: Yes I am.

LORELAI: Honey, why don’t you just stay home and read The bell jar’? Same effect.

RORY: Paris needs no embellishments.

Most iconic outfit

I actually quite like Rory and Lane’s party outfits. They usually wear some god-awful outfits, but these were cute. I especially like Rory’s black dress with little pink flowers, very cute.

Final thoughts and fun facts

The whole ‘Lorelai misses MAx’ thing in this episode is so weird. They broke up more than six episodes ago and he’s been mentioned in passing once since. Also how on Earth did she have enough things from him/their relationship to have a whole ‘break up box’? Which also, I didn’t know was a thing.

Apparently, the main dance area at the party is the same set as the ball in The Princess Diaries and that makes me very, very happy.

Going by the show timeline, this episode should take place in the beginning of January. Dean says he is basing their three month anniversary from Rory’s birthday which is at the beginning of October, and three months from then would be January. Yet when Rory wakes Lorelai up at 6 am, it is too sunny outside for 6 am in Connecticut in January.
