The Best Of: Kindle Unlimited & Prime Reading #4

I’ve recently gone through my entire Goodreads and organised my books by type, such as the ones I’ve read with Kindle Unlimited. I spent a lot of time reading purely Kindle Unlimited books a few years ago, but I haven’t used the service for quite a while now. This is why I’ve changed the series’ name to include Prime Reading. There’s a lot of crossover between the services and I always have Prime Reading, I’ve started using it a lot more lately.

Two Princes of Summer (Whims of Fae #1) by Nissa Leder

I have to make it aware straight away that this series is one that started off really strong for me, but it started to lose my interest around the fourth and fifth books. I have finished the series now and let’s just say I wasn’t a fan, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be. I’d definitely left too long a gap between books and I just couldn’t connect with the story. It is a pretty good series to get as part of a subscription though.

This book was suggested to me on one of the many book groups I am in on Facebook (which I no longer use) and I must say the cover is definitely what sold me on it. We all know I’m a sucker for a good cover.

If you are a fan of fae books then you will love this series. It has the seasonal courts alongside the Seelie and Unseelie. An almost love triangle and a sequel series set in the same world but with witches, so if you can’t get enough of this universe there are plenty of books to fill that need.

Synopsis: Two fae princes fighting for the Summer crown.

A mortal lured into Faerie and caught in their web.

The battle that changes everything.

After her mother’s suicide, Scarlett’s grief consumes her. When a beautiful, otherworldly stranger offers her a release from her pain, it’s too tempting an opportunity to resist. She’s lured into Faerie and sucked into a royal battle as two fae brothers prepare for the Battle of Heirs where the winner earns the right to the throne.

Human emotion fuels fae power and Scarlett’s is the most potent Cade has ever tasted. He’s certain she is the key to defeating his brother Raith. But Raith has surprises of his own, and Scarlett fits perfectly into his devious plan.

Scarlett must decide how far she’s willing to go to avoid her guilt and heartache. As she is pulled further into the realm of magic and power, she discovers a dangerous secret that could change her fate forever.

Will Scarlett find a way to cope with her sorrow and untangle herself from the two princes?

Or will they devour her completely?

Air Awakens (Air Awakens #1) by Elise Kova

Air Awakens was the first book that I downloaded, and I loved it so much that I want to buy the books in print. However, as much as I want to support indie publishing, they are so expensive. Maybe some day, but not right now.

The story follows a young library apprentice called Vhalla Yarl, who saves the life of the crown prince, Aldrik Solaris. During this, she awakens a power deep inside herself, a power that no one has wielded for a long time. Deep in war, the Solaris empire sees Vhalla as a weapon against their enemies and seek to use her to win the war.

I loved these books mostly for providing a take on magic which was new to me.

  1. Elise Kova is an author I’ve been wanting to try for ages! I feel like her books have been on my TBR for years 😂 Great to hear that Air Awakens was a hit for you although I totally commiserate about the price of indie books 😮‍💨
