2024 Reading Goals

I can’t believe it’s time for me to set reading goals again, but here we are. Can we all agree that 2023 has been the quickest year ever? It feels like I wrote last year’s post a few months ago, literally crazy.

I’m writing this a little early so I don’t have any official reading stats for you yet, but that post is coming after this one.

What I can say is I completely failed one of my goals which was ‘read a classic’. I don’t have high hopes of me ever doing this, but who knows? Unless I’m reading ARCs, I’m a mood reader and classics never cross my mind.

Anyway, here are my reading goals for 2024!

Read 110 books

I really wasn’t sure how big to make this year’s goal as, without giving too much away before my yearly wrap-up post, I’ve read more than 120 books this year. However, as Goodreads doesn’t let you DNF books, it’s probably actually less.

I want 2024 to be the year that I don’t rely on graphic novels, short audiobooks and novellas for content/to bulk out my reading challenge. I haven’t counted the exact amounts yet, but according to StoryGraph at least 40% of my reads have been less than 300 pages. I’ve been feeling very intimidated by longer reads recently because of preparing for the Christmas reviews and I need to shake it off. I used to think 400 pages was a normal-sized book, but now they feel long.

So, this is a very long way of saying I want to read 110 books next year with more than half of them being over 300 pages long.

Read 38,000 pages

Now this goal is currently higher than what I’ve achieved (at this point) in 2023. It also links nicely with my first goal. If I’m reading longer books, this should be no problem. I do want to challenge myself though and I won’t lie, my reading challenge was pretty easy this year.

38,000 pages sounds impossible right now, but I do really enjoy watching that number grow over the year. Unfortunately, this isn’t a challenge option on Goodreads, which is my go-to app, but I do also use StoryGraph now. This has been my first full year of using it and I love all of the graphs and stats (more on those in my yearly wrap-up).

Read more series

I had a similar goal last year which was to complete at least one series from start to finish. No comment on that just yet, but if you’ve been reading for a while you will know if I’ve achieved this or not. However, I’ve been reading so many standalones for the past year, that I feel like I’m missing out on some great series.

I’ve been wanting to write more ‘binge-worthy book series’ posts, but I’m very quickly running out of series I’ve finished. If you have any great series recommendations please send them my way, I’m excited to get invested in longer plots with interesting worlds.
