Best character

I have to choose the poor temp worker Euguene who spends the majority of the episode scrubbing the floor of the parking lot. He’s only young so of course he’s going to do whatever management asks of him, poor guy.

Best quotes and one liners

MATEO: Oh, don’t worry. I’ll clean that up for you. Ugh, what is the point of these people? They’re so bad, they make Jonah look competent.

JONAH: Uh, nope, I will not be betting on people losing their jobs.

GARRETT: Quitting their jobs. And they’re not people. They’re temps.

DINA: Come on. I mean, we always lose a few on the first day. It’s good, clean fun, like the Myrtle death pool. That thing’s been going on for 20 years.

JONAH: Yeah, I…I shouldn’t gamble. I used to get a little carried away.

GARRETT: Oh, I’m Jonah. I’m too proper to gamble. Where’s me monocle?

JONAH: Hey! Isaac. Hey, hey. Oh, good, I was hoping I was gonna catch you.

ISAAC: Yeah, well I can’t go home till 7:00, or my mom will know I quit another job.

JONAH: I wanted to give you this.

ISAAC: Really? I, I can’t…

JONAH: No, please. It it belongs in your hands way more than mine.

ISAAC: Thank you.

JONAH: Merry Christmas.

ISAAC: Hey, it’s me. How much crystal can I buy for $200? Great, I’ll see you in an hour, Uncle Kevin.

Final thoughts and fun facts

The name on Amy’s name tag is “Joanne” in this episode.

This is Steve Agee’s first appearance as Isaac. Though he is a temp worker who quits at the end of this episode, he must have been hired back, and as a permanent employee, as he recurs throughout the rest of the series.

At the end of every episode, the card for the production company Spitzer Holding Company features a variety of items they specialize in. In this episode, they list Venom Extraction, Dairy, and Good at Math.

Amy tells Jonah that she always thought that she wanted two or three kids. She would later go on to have her second child son Parker with Adam and in the last episode, it is revealed that she and Jonah have a son together.

Dina argues with Glenn that there is “no such thing” as a manager’s parking spot. It was established in Demotion (2016) that not only is there a manager’s parking spot, but the assistant store manager has an assigned spot right next to it. As Dina has been assistant store manager for a number of years at this point, there’s no way she wouldn’t have known she had her own assigned spot.
