Synopsis:

Light up your heart this holiday season as two old flames get a second chance at love…

Billionaire businessman Adam Bosch decides to bring a date to the family Hanukkah party this year in hopes of getting a break from his mother’s matchmaking. Trouble is, his busy schedule hasn’t left much room for romance. Since he’s always remained cordial with his high school sweetheart Sara Schwartz, he gets back in touch and asks her to be his plus one. And if he’s being honest, it’s a good excuse to see her again…since he’s never quite forgotten her.

Sara’s a successful designer with a close circle of friends and a thriving business—so what if her love life is non-existent? When Adam resurfaces and asks her to pose as his date after all these years, she thinks it’s a ridiculous idea. But he’s charming, persuasive…and too cute to resist. Before long, they rediscover the spark that first brought them together. Will their holi-date turn into lasting love?

Review:

Bright Winter Lights is a quick and festive audio novella that is perfect to pick up if you want to boost your reading challenge. The story is fast-paced, with a ‘happily ever after’ but it does lack substance.

Although saying that, I definitely enjoyed this more than the first instalment. It was still a little flat though. It’s hard to explain what’s necessarily wrong with it. It’s possible it’s the short length. You’re not given any time to really know and like the characters. Bright Winter Lights did give the two main characters a short backstory and shared history, which did make me root for them more than the couple in the first book. However, it’s not enough for me.

I have such neutral feelings about this book because I haven’t been given anything to make me feel any certain way. I’d never say Bright Winter Lights was badly written. The bones of the story are definitely there, but the development is severely lacking.

I really enjoyed learning more about Jewish culture. It’s probably one of our favourite parts of the whole book. It’s refreshing to read a festive romance that isn’t completely centred around Christmas. It was a part of this story, but with two Jewish main characters, Hanukkah was the central theme. Well, sort of. There are a lot of references to it, but I can’t actually remember if the holiday is celebrated during the book. My ability to retain information from audiobooks is really not great. Especially when I finished the book over a week before writing the review.

I’m really not sure what else I can say about Bright Winter Lights. It’s a very average read that, if it weren’t for it’s short length, probably would have gotten a much harsher rating from me.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.
