Synopsis:

Light up your heart this holiday season as two old flames get a second chance at loveโ€ฆ

Billionaire businessman Adam Bosch decides to bring a date to the family Hanukkah party this year in hopes of getting a break from his motherโ€™s matchmaking. Trouble is, his busy schedule hasnโ€™t left much room for romance. Since heโ€™s always remained cordial with his high school sweetheart Sara Schwartz, he gets back in touch and asks her to be his plus one. And if heโ€™s being honest, itโ€™s a good excuse to see her againโ€ฆsince heโ€™s never quite forgotten her.

Saraโ€™s a successful designer with a close circle of friends and a thriving businessโ€”so what if her love life is non-existent? When Adam resurfaces and asks her to pose as his date after all these years, she thinks itโ€™s a ridiculous idea. But heโ€™s charming, persuasiveโ€ฆand too cute to resist. Before long, they rediscover the spark that first brought them together. Will their holi-date turn into lasting love?

Review:

Bright Winter Lights is a quick and festive audio novella that is perfect to pick up if you want to boost your reading challenge. The story is fast-paced, with a โ€˜happily ever afterโ€™ but it does lack substance.

Although saying that, I definitely enjoyed this more than the first instalment. It was still a little flat though. Itโ€™s hard to explain whatโ€™s necessarily wrong with it. Itโ€™s possible itโ€™s the short length. Youโ€™re not given any time to really know and like the characters. Bright Winter Lights did give the two main characters a short backstory and shared history, which did make me root for them more than the couple in the first book. However, itโ€™s not enough for me.

I have such neutral feelings about this book because I havenโ€™t been given anything to make me feel any certain way. Iโ€™d never say Bright Winter Lights was badly written. The bones of the story are definitely there, but the development is severely lacking.

I really enjoyed learning more about Jewish culture. Itโ€™s probably one of our favourite parts of the whole book. Itโ€™s refreshing to read a festive romance that isnโ€™t completely centred around Christmas. It was a part of this story, but with two Jewish main characters, Hanukkah was the central theme. Well, sort of. There are a lot of references to it, but I canโ€™t actually remember if the holiday is celebrated during the book. My ability to retain information from audiobooks is really not great. Especially when I finished the book over a week before writing the review.

Iโ€™m really not sure what else I can say about Bright Winter Lights. Itโ€™s a very average read that, if it werenโ€™t for itโ€™s short length, probably would have gotten a much harsher rating from me.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.
