Synopsis:

The story of two friends who have known each other all their lives โ€” falling in and out of love. Sam & Miles belong together, except every five years, thereโ€™s a hitch and they donโ€™t end up together. Now, as they tell their story to a reporter at a momentous occasion, will they finally break the five-year curse? Can these two friends and lovers find their happily ever after?

Review:

Going into this I had no idea what it would be like. I decided to listen on a whim as it is only just over an hour long and honestly it was decent. Itโ€™s pretty obvious by now that I love a full-cast audiobook and I really enjoyed the dual narrative of The Five-Year Hitch. The actors had amazing chemistry.

The chemistry was great, but the script was annoying at times. Honestly, the amount of times โ€˜we were just friendsโ€™ or โ€˜I just assumedโ€™ was used was super irritating.

It took me out of it a little when they acknowledged this was a book on Audible. I was then very confused as to whether this was real or not. I feel like the reporter part wasnโ€™t really mentioned, well that or I wasnโ€™t paying full attention, so I had no idea what was going on.

This was super wholesome and fun right until the end. This is a spoiler so donโ€™t read the next paragraph if youโ€™re thinking of listening to this. Out of nowhere, Miles has cancer and honestly, it doesnโ€™t even add anything to the story. They mention it, heโ€™s cured for now but they donโ€™t know if itโ€™s gone forever and then the story ends. Not a fan of that if Iโ€™m being honest.

Another moment I also really didnโ€™t like was when they mentioned โ€˜hooking upโ€™ for the first time and Sam was drunk and Miles was completely sober. That made me really uncomfortable, not cool. Both of these moments did take my rating down to three stars, which is still good considering The Five-Year Hitch is only an hour long.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
