Book Confessions: Series I’m Never Going To Finish #10

Skin Books by Alice Broadway

When I first read this book I had no idea it was part of a series. I was drawn in by the beautiful cover but I actually thought the story was a little weird, kind of cool, but definitely strange. I genuinely don’t remember if I actually liked this or not. I did read it over six years ago and I’ve read hundreds of books since then so you can’t really blame me.

By the time I found out this was a series, it was way too late to want to continue. You really can’t leave four years between instalments, especially when you don’t remember anything about the first book other than the creepy books they keep of their dead relatives’ skin. The synopsis doesn’t give any indication about the weird books, it just sounds like a cool story about a world where your life story is told through tattoos.

Synopsis: There are no secrets in Saintstone.

From the second you’re born, every achievement, every failing, every significant moment are all immortalised on your skin. There are honorable marks that let people know you’re trustworthy. And shameful tattoos that announce you as a traitor.

After her father dies, Leora finds solace in the fact that his skin tells a wonderful story. That is, until she glimpses a mark on the back of his neck…the symbol of the worst crime a person can commit in Saintstone. Leora knows it has to be a mistake, but before she can do anything about it, the horrifying secret gets out, jeopardizing her father’s legacy…and Leora’s life.

The Four Horsemen by Laura Thalassa

Again, I can’t remember how I felt about this book. I remember it taking a while to finish and I found the romance really weird. I’m not sure I could forgive a Horseman of the Apocalypse nevermind fall in love with one. Especially after witnessing said Horseman (is that what they’re called?) kill people with disease. The whole thing felt very weird.

The other thing that put me off this series was the covers. I’m not interested in covers with half naked men on them, even at 26 they still gross me out. However, I have just seen they’ve updated the covers. I think publishers are realising people don’t want these types of covers. I’m still not going to continue reading them though.

Synopsis: They came to earth—Pestilence, War, Famine, Death—four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to earth, and they came to end us all.

When Pestilence comes for Sara Burn’s town, one thing is certain: everyone she knows and loves is marked for death. Unless, of course, the angelic-looking horseman is stopped, which is exactly what Sara has in mind when she shoots the unholy beast off his steed.

Too bad no one told her Pestilence can’t be killed.

Now the horseman, very much alive and very pissed off, has taken her prisoner, and he’s eager to make her suffer. Only, the longer she’s with him, the more uncertain she is about his true feelings towards her… and hers towards him.

And now, well, Sara might still be able to save the world, but in order to do so, she’ll have to sacrifice her heart in the process.
