Book Haul: February 2026

The Long Game by Rachel Reid

I’ve already read book one and two in this series with Kindle Unlimited, but I ended up buying them and the rest of the series, other than Common Goal, as they were on offer. My review of Game Changer hasn’t been posted (or written yet), but I didn’t enjoy it as much as Heated Rivalry. I’m still looking forward to checking out the rest of the series though, especially The Long Game. I love that Ilya seems to pop up and be a menace in every single book.

I have a feeling this book is going to make me sad. I already know it won’t have a complete happy ending as Shane and Ilya are getting a third book. Either way, I’m looking forward to spending more time with them. I think this will be my next read in this series as you technically don’t need to read them in order.

Synopsis: To the world they are rivals, but to each other they are everything.

Ten years.

That’s how long Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov have been seeing each other. How long they’ve been keeping their relationship a secret. From friends, from family…from the league. If Shane wants to stay at the top of his game, what he and Ilya share has to remain secret. He loves Ilya, but what if going public ruins everything?

Ilya is sick of secrets. Shane has gotten so good at hiding his feelings, sometimes Ilya questions if they even exist. The closeness, the intimacy, even the risk that would come with being open about their relationship…Ilya wants it all.

It’s time for them to decide what’s most important—hockey or love.

It’s time to make a call.

A Taste of Poison by Tessonja Odette

I bought a few of the books in this series as they were on offer for just 99p on Kindle. I’ve been interested in these books for a while as I’m always looking for new retellings to check out. It’s a little weird how often fairytale retellings include the fae, but I’m here for it. Who doesn’t love a good fae book? I haven’t read one in quite some time.

Synopsis: A runaway princess wanted for murder.

A deadly huntsman who’s after her heart…

Half-fae Astrid Snow is used to being disliked. With magic that makes her mirror back one’s worst qualities, she has more enemies than friends. And when she’s accused of poisoning her father, her stepmother – the formidable Spring Queen – becomes her greatest enemy yet. Forced into hiding, she finds solace at the Seven Sins Hotel. It provides the perfect subterfuge she needs. For who could ever find an outlaw in a hotel famed for sin?

Bear shifter Torben Davenport lost everything to the gambling halls. To pay off his debts, he serves the fae royals as their personal Huntsman, locating hard-to-find fugitives with his scent-based magic. When the Spring Queen offers him a bargain that will erase his debts for good, he’s willing to do what it takes – even if it means finding the queen’s runaway stepdaughter and cutting out her heart.

Astrid won’t go down without a fight, even if her assailant is a strikingly handsome Huntsman. If she can evade the bear-shifter’s claws, maybe she can make him an ally. It’s easier said than done, especially after she accidentally gets herself handcuffed to her infuriating captor.

Can Astrid cut through Torben’s icy demeanour and convince him to help her find the real killer? Or will she lose her heart in more ways than one?

Love is a War Song by Danica Nava

This was my final purchase of the month and was a bit of an impulse buy. I don’t come across books with a music theme very often and this is a new author for me so I’m excited to check this out. Who doesn’t love a pop star x cowboy romance? I don’t know, maybe me. I’ve never read one before as cowboy romance is not really my thing, but I’m willing to give it a go. I didn’t think I’d love hockey romance but I was proved severely wrong.

Synopsis: Pop star Avery Fox has become a national joke after a misjudged photoshoot completely backfires. The shoot has turned her into a social pariah and the internet has dubbed her a fake. With threats coming from every direction and her career in flames, she escapes to her estranged grandmother Lottie’s ranch in Oklahoma.

Red Fox Ranch has been home to Lucas Iron Eyes since he was sixteen years old. He has lived by three rules to keep himself out of 1) preserve the culture, 2) respect the horses, and 3) stick to himself. When he is tasked with picking up Lottie’s granddaughter at the bus station, the last person he expected to see is the Avery Fox. Lucas can’t stand what she represents, but when he’s forced to work with her on the ranch, he suddenly can’t seem get her out of his head.

It’s clear Avery doesn’t belong there, but with the ranch’s survival at risk, Avery and Lucas are forced to form a tentative truce and make a Avery will help raise funds to save the ranch, and in exchange, Lucas will show her what it really means to be an Indian. It’s purely transactional, absolutely no horsing around…but where’s the fun in that?
